So how many hours do programmers/developers/engineers work per week (on average)?

Thing that might be helpful to know with you response:

Are you a salaried or hourly employee?
Are any bonuses applicable?
Seniority Level?
Industry of employment?

(probably some more Qs, but not sure right now ... input welcome).

If you're interested in AT input on salaries see this thread.

I do 20 hours of programming at my school's Software Engineering Lab.

- Supposedly hourly, but it's salaried.
- I get paid by the grant's sponsors for anything above 20 hours.
- Entry
- Web Applications/Business

Outside of school and work, I do physics programming and PC game development. Don't get paid for those.

Between 50-60 hours per week (if i had to guess) (~45 at work, ~10 at home)

- Salaried.
- Raises/Bonuses are based on performance of yourself based on others peers in group.
- College Grad (BS in EE) little over 3 months in this job.
- Digital Design and Verification using SystemVerilog.

Mostly 40 hrs or a bit less. Decent pay, crappy work. Underworked, and overpaid.

Small bonus, and I am the lowest peon in Engineering. PCBs and Hardware.

I work 40 hours a week...but actual hours worked varies depending on the phase of development I'm on. During prototyping/elaboration phase I may work at most 20-25 of those hours. During actual construction I will will work 30+ hours. However, when I work I am focused as hell and in 4 hours of work I can do more than 1 days worth of work than other developers who spend a lot of time bsing.
