I'm pretty sure there is a way higher proportion of ugly people who post on this board. Except me of course, because I work at an Abercrombie and Fitch.

 

It depends! Are ugliness and average looking mutually exclusive? Or are you using comparisons to define the average look? I ask because in a society of the ugly, the average looking is also ugly if you use the latter qualifier.

Let's divide people into three classes. There are ugly people, average people, and attractive people. Now let's define an arbitrary "Looks Scale" based on points. The midpoint of the scale, i.e. the 50% of ugliness and where the average class of people necessarily reside, is at the middle of the scale. A whole 35% of the population sits right on that mid-mark. The 60% which is ugly sits 1 point below that mark. The 5% of attractive people sit 12 points above that mark.

When you average everything out, it works. True, it has to be a weighted average, but it's an average all the same.

you can't deny the fact that this world has, and will always produce some butt ugly people. it's all about balance, the good with the bad, the yen and the yang, the ugly and the pretty, etc.

Which seems appropos...when people refer to someone as average looking, they *usually* mean neither good or bad looking

70% are not ugly, but neither are attractive.
10% can be attractive, but are nothing special.
10% are attractive (5% out of this is naturally attractive).

This is of course in front of my eyes, not your's or the society's.

first of all, it's NOT QUANTIFIABLE, as beauty IS IN THE EYE of the beholder.

next, beauty may not fall under a bell curve but the term AVERAGE DOES. Average will always fall under a bell curve.
