had a 10% wage decrease from 2009-2010. We got our 10% back starting 2011. Company also stated that when we have 3 months of profit they will give us back the difference in wages that we would have gotten.

My raises have been less than they would have been, and my wife had a wage freeze, but it didn't really impact us. If anything we are doing better because we paid off some bills and lowered some others.

This brings up a question. If you are financially ruined, would/should you be on the internet? Would you consider the internet a necessity these days to find a job? Or is it still a luxury you could do with out? (sorry..probably threadjacking, but since that was one of your options, and I notice the trend is that more people are picking "same or better"). Made me wonder if someone who is broke/jobless is even on the internet to answer the poll

Much better this past year than the couple previous years, family income went up from 50k to ~400k. Got to love the medical field.

I have a jobnow but it was hard. I was out of work for almost a year in 09 but I got a job, paid off my car, got rid of all my debt, and getting back on my feet.

I know someone who just turned off their home internet b/c they could not afford it anymore.

On the other hand, they spend money on things that they don't NEED (a truck they don't really use).

So.... hard to say. But most places you can get a cheap DSL line for about $20 a month. I know I would rather have no TV before I had no internet.

One of my customers let his toyota tundra (fully loaded) go back because his retirement income was cut. His monthly savings........

$931.00

No wonder he borrows from me.

Have been unable to find steady job. My relationship of 8 years fell apart in my face & I wasn't able to do anything to stop it without a steady job to move out.
It's been rough, but I'm hoping to get this job I just interviewed for.

08-09 sucked balls, but at least I kept working.

But in every bad there is a good. Bought a house in 2008 for $75k less than the previous owner did in 2002, in a very nice neighborhood, and at a good interest rate.

Got a new job in Q4 of 2010, and SHOULD have asked for a higher starting salary, but was too used to working for a company in trouble for so long.

Can't really think of any particularly negative impacts for myself, was still in school for most of it. My parents, who covered the portion of my out-of-state schooling that wasn't covered by scholarships, were hurt but certainly not ruined. There was a period where there was some concern that my dad would lose his job, but I don't think it really came that close to happening. Their home lost probably $200k in value and now they're slightly underwater, but they're refinancing when my dad gets his bonus this spring. The Ford stock tanking didn't help their retirement, but now that it's back up to pretty much 10-year highs, I don't think they're too concerned.

As for myself, I still got a great-paying job out of school, and even got to make some investments when the market was still on the lower side in 2010. I expect to be able to buy a house in a year or two and catch the low interest rates and low housing market in general. Expecting a modest raise and bonus this year. Can't complain.

Basically the same if not better. I've gotten 2 minor raises from work, and a Christmas bonus this year.

I wasn't impacted at all fortunately. Both my wife and I have steady jobs, and I even changed companies and wages went up by almost 50% so I can't complain. Her on the other hand, has had a wage freeze for at least the last 3 years, yet they keep asking more and more of her.

In the military, so it hasn't had any effect on me. I'm sure I'd be pretty well screwed if I wasn't.

I was in London, finishing up my masters and doing an internship for the first half of 2008, though I officially graduated in April. All my friends who graduated in April in the states found jobs, but everybody's budget's seemed to have frozen by the time I got back to the states in late July. So, I found a decently paying temp job for a year and did another internship. Last year I found a job in my field, but in a very shitty part of Texas. Now budget cuts are coming. I'm currently looking for a job in my field but in a less shitty area.
