The term NEF originated a long time ago, as I've been told, by a particular forum user named NEF, who posted a ton of useless posts (IIRC they were just empty or contained smileys or something like that) all in one thread. He was so bad that the Mods banned him, and ever since then anyone who posts useless short messages is termed a NEF, and the act of posting said useless messages is canned NEFFING. Hope this helps to explain.

That wasn't too hard. I remember threads like this from a few years ago, and we had some real die hard geeks, who would make you do binary, octal, or hexadecimal math to figure out their age. :Q

They dont teach that stuff in the US do they? I hope not, sounds difficult.

Some kid in my Engineering Physics class was wearing a t-shirt that said "There are 10 types of people in this world: those who understand binary and those who don't."

I got confused

Although, I no longer crunch for TA, I still consider myself part of the team. That being said I'm 47 years young.

/me waves at GunDog! Good to see ya around!

Actually they do. Or at least did when I went through a tech school to learn programming. Our assembler (mainframe) teacher made us do hexadecimal math, addition, subtraction, multiplication. And we had to know binary and octal as well. :Q

I really liked that class, it was my favorite coding language!

Jeez, I'm still the only one in my category.

When I was young I used to hang around with an older crowd and now it seems I've flip-flopped. Go figure?

Lol, Assimilator1, if you knew the amount of time I have spent digging through the archives because of your statement you would be laughing your head off.

I never did find the post you were referring to, but I decided I wanted to go back and read the original discussion between Hellburner and myself, so I more or less brought up every post in the archive with my name in it to see if I could spot it . While I never did find that one either, I did come across some amusing old posts! Hehe, I even re-read my infamous "separation" post. The funny thing is that its the 2 year anniversary of that post!

Edit: As a side note, I still have the same system I ordered that night as my home PC . I guess I'm long overdue for an upgrade...

Here's the thread Amok.Like I said ,the thread is still live
And you'll see in there I have copied your old thread into it.

Hey I remember your seperation thread!..... vaguely ,I hope things are ok for you now.
You must of spent hours looking through all those threads!:Q lol ,btw I've got that old optical vs radio SETI thread saved .
Are you still running your own radio dish in your back yard for realtime SETI?
And what is your PC?

The dish wasn't in my backyard, it was in a field out in the country surrounding the area I live in . It belonged to the SETI project I was consulting with at the time.

As for how things are going, I'm doing pretty good. Rather enjoying being single . Just been very time deficient since my father retired and I took control of his business interests.
