Pretty reasonable to take caution, would be unfortunate to cause an injury. I do some downhill trail running to get my heart rate back up, since walking downhill often leaves my heart rate in the 110-120BPM range. Kinda depends on my training plan for the day.
Running downhill is harder on the knees, my P.T. sister very much agrees. If your knees are complaining at all, slow down or walk, is my suggestion. Well, that's working for me, but you're not me. FWIW.

My right hip and knee are constant reminders that I'm old. I usually have to take a day between walks, to give them a chance to quiet down. I'm still going to go out there as regular as I can though.

I just did about 3 miles on Green Mountain this morning up past the beaver ponds at the turn off toward the old tin mine. Usually do Lake Symington but I needed a change this morning.
I've hiked Gold Mountain out there, quite liked it, hard to motivate myself to drive the hour and a half to get there when there's good hikes much closer

With all the crazy hyperbole going on it was bound to draw out some crazies that actually believe the bull shit.

Not impossible, but so far the motive isn't known. Hinkley jr's motive for shooting Reagan didn't make the slightest sense. Nor do the motives for many shooters. When you have vast numbers of guns out there (and, it seems, a less-than-100%-competent Presidential protection service) the wonder is it doesn't happen more often.

FWIW I ran the Western States 100 miler two weeks ago and it had around 17,000 feet of elevation gain. But back to the thread at hand. I see Trump has yet to visit the wounded or offer condolences for the dead person yet. But apparently, he manned up and was able to go golfing.

Well, the Butler County, PA rally was a respite from the rigors of cart-golf on his courses. I imagine the convention is as well. The man's determined... Uh, and condolences are for sissies.

Congrats on the 100 miler with elevation gain. That's astonishing.

It was tough...by the end, his Toyota was about worn out.

You're being kind to the SS. What happened was an inexcusable failure by a clearly ill prepared team.

My rare P&N comment.

Life is better when politics takes a very far backburner to the things that make life enjoyable. Most of the time it doesn't even enter my periphery.

As someone that works out nearly every day, mental health is as important as physical health. Politics rot the brain.

I don't understand that argument. Unless you are wealthy and from the most protected demographic groups, politics comes for you whether you try to ignore it or not. "Mental health" in particular is absolutely a political topic. Hell, at this point I see the mental health industry as being largely based on political ideology and political interests.

I get it. It feels strange to drive to a place to walk (about a mile and a half). That's why I usually just do the lake walk. It's just down the hill.

It’s interesting that you’re able to draw strong conclusions here but not in other situations.

Can you help me understand why you’re so much more knowledgeable about personal security than criminal law where you felt comfortable making a judgment here but not there?

I'm truly impressed.

From medical researcher, to constitutional lawyer, to personal protection security expert.

Your talents were wasted as a building contractor.

I dunno though - as an outsider it seems to me the burden at this point is on the SS (and maybe the local police?) to explain themselves. Whatever the reasons, they failed (or at least performed very poorly and came very close to failing completely) at their core task.

Astonishing luck from Trump's perspective, though. All the drama and chance for a photo-op of a close call assassination attempt, but absolutely minimal physical consequences to himself. Reagan had to spend a lot of time in hospital, IIRC, and I presume endured significant physical suffering.

And maybe it's quite egalitarian that the US security apparatus is nearly as bad at protecting those at the top from gun violence as it is at protecting school children?

The fact that it didnt happen during the first year of his presidency sort of confirmed for me that nope there is no deep state elite culture pulling the strings of power, no illuminati no masons. No nothing.

Next poll is when will the next attempt happen? With the intelligence (but their denial) that Iran plans an assassination. Do they return the favour and drone strike him? They better do it soon since his SS armoured car isn’t the beast.

I have already predicted that the next attempt will happen before Judge Aileen Cannon and the Roberts SCOTUS rule on the appeals of the last of Trump's convictions. That's a very----------------------------wide--------------------------------window. Odds are Trump dies of ____________________________ before that, however.

I wonder how many of the current "We're so lucky that he turned his head" public statements will turn to "eh, maybe that wasn't such a great thing" in about a year or two.

I have never thought it lucky for us, just for him that the bullet was just 1-2 inches from killing him. In fact I was taken by surprise when I saw the front page article in the New York Times the other day that a large contingent of Trump's base attribute the mere grazing of his ear to an act of God. I was Oh, sheesh...

But these are some of the people we're dealing with.

He's loaded. Seems like a nice guy despite that.
