I for one do not mitigate Canada's achievements nor its military support. I have argued in the past that Canada is the most helpful member of NATO at the moment, which is ironic since Europe was about to be bombed into the abyss, not North America (although I'm sure they were next).

Clinton said that because he wanted to rally more support to his speeches or whatever he was doing, but quite frankly, I would say Canada+ Britain, considering Canada in all frankness is an outpost of Great Britain in North America, just with a slice of American (and unfortunately, French) culture thrown in.

WalMart goes bankrupt. Dell goes bankrupt. Apple goes bankrupt. Anyone with a "Made In China" sticker on their bread and butter products goes bankrupt.

Yes, China needs Americans to keep their factories running. But we need China just as much. War with China is not happening in this lifetime.

Remember that China doesn't hold our debt; they hold our currency. If things go south with them, they can readily find buyers for their hundreds of billions in US bonds. But their quality of life is already pretty low, so war with them will affect their living standards a lot less than it will affect us.

But besides the complete destruction of American commerce, your solution is perfect.

most of the manufacturing that takes place in china can be relocated within weeks.

The SK army has f-15s/f-16s all the same, and has all American-sponsored technological edge to deal with the north.

Where are you getting this information from?

simple public knowledge, its on wikipedia for instance

Yes, now they have the worlds largest insurgency thanks to our unwillingness to finish the job. Our continued weakness only brings more death and destruction to Iraq. We must cast aside out pathetic morals, and massacre this insurgency once and for all. Everyone knows this.

your an idiot, eveyone knows this.

There is so much crap in this thread I don't even want to get started but I guess I might as well go ahead and open the Canadian Inferiority Complex syndrome door

First off within the first couple of days of a war against NK, Seoul is gone from 500,000 artillery shells every hour, and any troops on the border are also erased.

But onto the Canada shit

Just like in Afghanistan ( where Canadians are fighting and dieing to protect America from the Taliban), Canada is always given some of the hardest regions to defend and to take. Canada kicked ass in the Korean War and if called on again to help defend American interests no doubt would step up , only to be forgotten and made fun of by America's spoiled generations.
Sad that
What was it Clinton said the other day while him and Bush were visiting "America has never had a better ally or partner"
On Monday we will witness the end of the * the worlds longest and free border* as the new laws put in place to protect Americans from a man hiding in a cave go into effect
People used to be proud of that, but nowadays, you gotta do what you can to keep the spineless happy under their beds

edit- I just can't let this one go
on second thought I will let that one go

Well said, I'm American, just don't take what one person says to what we all think, people who are worth listening to can hold this respect you think lacks.

Canada is fun for jokes, but in all seriousness, I  Canada for their support. I don't agree with all their politics and other issues, but as an ally, I don't really need to worry about that. A country can run themselves how they see fit, and as an ally, there really is no greater ally. Britain is a great ally too, but there is more of a closeness with Canada that doesn't get the same attention as the U.S./U.K. alliance.

Since WWII, Canada has been an excellent friend in allied battle. They've basically been everywhere we've been, and done an amazing job with what they've been tasked.

People who say Seoul will be leveled with hundreds of thousands of casualties should keep in mind a few things.

-The South Koreans have had 55+ years to prepare for this.
-Seoul is a huge metropolis and only a part of it is within range of NK artillery.
-As was shown in Grozny when the Russians laid down a murderous rate of fire, modern reinforced buildings can withstand quite a bit of artillery fire without collapsing.
-Most NK pieces are 170mm/155mm in caliber and those will not penetrate more that 3-4 stories.
-If there is the slightest hint that a barrage is coming (and I bet the SK have constant radar cover to check this), then the population can quickly get cover underground and on the lower floors, southern sides of the buildings. I'm sure they've had their version of "duck and cover" drills over the last half century.
-Most artillery casualties come from shrapnel rather than the HE detonation and this can be negated rapidly with moderate cover.

Back in the 80s when I was stationed at FT Sill, I trained with a lot of Canadians. The thing they wanted most was Coors. They couldn't get it where they were from.

Seriously, we could automate most labor intensive processes they do in China.

Putting a peg in a hole is pretty simple, but it is easier to pay somebody pennies than to order a robot for a premium.

Yea, because we did so well the last time...

Reason we did badly is because the North Koreans counter attacked with seasoned Chinese battalions armed with soviet weaponry and Russian advisers.

The army intelligence tasked with surveying enemy movements failed to note this. Although it is to be noted that USMC Companies trapped between the Chinese and the Sea, took a mountain pass between the two and bravely fought off both the cold and the Chinese raiders, despite not being adequately prepared for the winter.

Good try at your own history lesson though, better luck next time.

And you think that won't happen again because?

Russia isnt a superpower like they were back then and china is our ally.

Not really an ally...but thinking the same way as us.

Most people would be shocked to learn the size of N. Korea's standing military.

Text

From my previous post:

SK should able to hold its own with 650,000+ troops with their advanced equipments, tanks, artillery, AEGIS destroyers, and air force. The U.S. troops may just provide supporting role and additional air support. The U.S. is planning to hand over wartime command of Korean troops in 2012 anyways (currently, both U.S. and SK troops are under Combined Forces Command, or CFC) and take more of a supporting role.

SK isn't as weak as you think.

You were the one doubting SK's forces. And nowhere did I doubt NK's forces.

I've seen and worked with them plenty. But you have wikipedia, so I guess I'll take your word for it.

Don't be an ass.

Ya, lets also totally forget about the Korean War, Gulf War, how we easily trampled on Iraq's actual army (guerrillas are different.), the shit loads of combat we had in South and Central America during the cold war, etc.

Our military is just THAT horrible and THAT incompetent that we are given superpower status only as a joke because other nations are laughing at us. In fact, I hear East Timor could probably take us on.

Seriously?

No need to worry about how U.S. soldiers will do against North Korea, South Korea can win on its own. The U.S. should stay out so that China stays out.

A technologically sophisticated, well-armed, well-supported, and well-trained military vs a 1 million man 3rd world army of starving peasants, obsolete equipment, and a crazy leader.
