Arrggg so I booked 2 tickets to fly LA-TPE wth singapore airlines 2 months ago for $900 each ticket. At that time that was the cheapest rate. I just checked the rates again and Malaysia Airlines is only $720 per person!!! Singapore airlines charges $100 cancellation penalty per ticket so that would be $360 - $200 = $160 savings for if I decide to fly with Malaysia airlines. So the question is....is Singapore airlines worth $80 dollars more pp?
I've flown with Malaysia Airlines before and it was pretty good from what I remember. Never flown with Sing Airlines, but many publications consider them one of the best airlines. Does Singapore airlines have a power socket on every seat in economy class?

As a comparison the ticket costs almost $1500 if I were to book with singapore airlines today.

I've heard nothing but good things about Singapore Airlines, their economy class is supposedly one of the best in the business, personal entertainment console, leg room etc. I'd just stick with Singapore but just about all airlines that fly LA-TPE are good. I usually fly China Airlines because I have a lot of their miles so I could upgrade but I don't think you could go wrong with Singapore, Malaysia, China or Eva Airlines.

Singapore has 3 different 777 variations they run this route with. One of the three has 34" of pitch, the rest have as low as 32". Malaysia runs a 747 with 34" throughout economy.
IMO 2" extra legroom over the 13 hours outweighs anything you think you might be missing on Singapore.

Edit: Neither airline has power in economy.

I dislike the 747, at least the config the UA has. Does the Malaysia 747 have personal screens or is it the big projection one? I've heard nothing but good things about Singapore airlines and would fly it given the choice, but I always apply my SWU's and ugpade myself

Ok i looked it up on seatguru, 34"-36" is the pitch of economy plus on UA and regular economy is 31" DON'T FLY SINGAPORE IF you get the plane that has 32" pitch.

Figure out which version of the 777 you are flying and then look it up:

Fly with the triple 7. In the right hands, it's best for international flight. Singapore Airlines will not let you down.

What if you were to cancel and the plane you switched to goes down into a massive fireball.

Then you'd regret it.

But what if you were to stay with your choice and that plane goes down into a massive fireball.

The choice is yours.

I have flown to Asia many many times and it is not worth it to me to switch airlines. I personally like Cathy Pacific myself...

for the OP: they're basically the same thing, malaysia is in a competition with singapore over who can have the better airline.
