Saw an interesting op/Ed, might have been on CNN, that basically said if you can afford to just slap a 55 cent first class stamp on your ballot envelope and it will pretty much ensure your vote gets there on time. All of the discussion around delayed voting and whatnot is because ballots go out with third class postage prepaid and delivery on those can be up to two weeks. First class postage is just a couple of days and a first class stamp will override the third class prepaid.
Good plan-assuming you receive your ballot in time. And give it plenty of time, because even first class mail is moving much slower than normal now. If it gets close to the election, I suggest driving it to the local drop off box-no interaction with any potential covid carriers need be risked.
It's probably a good idea to slap a stamp on mailing in the ballot anyway, because many state's laws look at the postmark to determine whether a ballot is received in time. First class mail is (usually) postmarked, third class mail rarely, if ever.
Pretty sad that the average person has to lawyer up in order to vote this year.
