I should have been more clear. They provide an illegal copy of 2k pro or 2k server when a 120 day trial isn't included with the text books. For that reason, I use Red Hat when at all possible.

I started out with an illegal "evaluation" copy of Windows XP Pro. I liked it, so I purchased some licenses for me and the rest of my team. The amusing thing is that I needed to use an hack program to change my CD-Key to the legitimate key that I purchased, so I could install service pack 1.

The activation is not there to keep people from pirating the software completely, it's there to keep casual pirates from giving it to their friends or installing it on a bunch of machines.
