Update: Found these KUMHO tires at Tire Rack. Seems like great tires for low price. Anyone use this brand before?

Original post: I bought crappy Dunlop tires from Tire Rack. Very noisy and high vibration. I figured I would just have to live with it since tires are expensive, but I'm wondering if I should bite the rubber bullet and get new ones. What would you do? BTW, I could probably stay with the bad tires for about two more years before they wear out.

Read the reviews at above link for a description of this tire's crappiness. I bought them before the bad reviews started showing. BTW, other than selling these tires, Tire Rack is  so I would buy from them again.

Keep what you have on your car until they wear down a bit more. The noise could go away. However, maybe, the installer did a crappy job of balancing your wheels because you didn't buy the tires from him?

I tried re-balancing and alignment at a different garage. Problem persisted. Only way to 'fix' the problem is rotating the tires every 500 miles or so. Read the reviews-other people have same problem.

I have a set of Kumhos on my car, less road noise than the BFGoodriches I replaced and a good price.
They Also stick to the road rather well.
Check Discount Tire If you have one in your area or http://www.tires.com (discount tires direct) and see if they have any in your size.
Also Yokohama Avid Tuorings are suposed to be really good.

Thanks Crackrabbit. I forgot all about Discount Tire! It's not in my city, but there is one in another town that I often visit.

FYI, I've done well at Sam's Club for tires .. if you have a membership.

I've never run Kuhmo's, but I've heard that they're a decent tire. If you have issues with your tires not balancing, the manufacturer should replace them. I'd check with the people you bought them from or contact the manufacturer directly.

i've gone through two sets of ecsta 712's... very nice tires but they were down EXTREMELY fast. I doubt i'd get another set of kumho's. (it was more of a cost thing in the past)

anyhow, cant speak for any of the other tires that they make.

I also bought a set of 712's this summer. They worked great on my integra and were only like 55 each from tirerack shipping only took 2 days. I would recommend them and I will continue to use them with plenty of tread left when the weather gets nice again.

The BFGoodrich Traction T/A are awesome tires. I am going to go with those after I'm done with the Bridgestone Potenza RE950 I have on right now, an equally imporessive tire.

To the OP what is the tiresize you are looking to buy for?

I have Dunlops (Sport 2020) on a 02 SLK230 which were the OEMs. Like them, but they last about 20k miles. Is this typical? Any tires you reccoemnd in a 215x16 and 225x17?

The BFG tires cost more! I'm getting "touring tires" in 225/60/16 size.

Purchased those tires from TireRack, and had them put on last week. No complaints here

Seems to me either a balancing issue or alignment issue if anything. My ride is smoother than before if anything.(I had Toyo Proxies and Michelin Energy Tires Before..)

Except for the noise and vibration issue, the tires you are planning on buying are inferior to the ones you already have. Not just because it's Kuhmo vs. Dunlop, but mostly because they are in entirely different categories.
I recommend you go back to Dunlop to get your existing tires replaced under warranty. Had you not purchased from a zero service store like Tirerack.com, you likely could have gotten the tires replaced under warranty from the vendor you purchased them (good luck doing that at Tirerack).

BTW, I've said before, I'll say it again: Tirerack.com is not a good value. It seems like it at first glance looking at their prices, but once you add on road hazard, shipping, and then local mounting and balancing, their prices almost always come out higher than a good local store like Discount Tires or Costco that packages everything in one price. In addition, Tirerack.com does not carry Toyos (of which I'm a fan), and they provide almost zero service and almost never honor warranties. For those on the west coast, I'm no longer a fan of Les Schwabs since Les retired a few years back and the prices went up while service went south.

I also have had a set of Kumho ECSTA Supra 712's. Gripped the road like crazy but only lasted one summer. Well you get what you pay for I guess.

176 Dollars shipped and with 50,000 mile warranty . After shipping and mounting and balancing I was only out 240 bucks. Your crazy if you think that is a bad deal for 4 tires shipped and mounted\balanced.
