Lincoln Logs were good for one thing - building see-saws to launch the logs at your enemies across the classroom.

QFT! I got one of those things stuck up in the ceiling in Kindergarten. Hell yeah I say!

BTW, I'm 41, and my brothers are 46, 47 and 49 and we all played with Legos as kids.

Legos were invented in the 50s. Kinda curious you asked people under 35. Legos were best in the 70s when you got huge boxes of just blocks, mats and bases. The only specialty pieces were windows and roof pieces.

But I had mats, and blocks, and bases in the late 80s early 90s. Those options never left....

A huge, kick ass multi colored brick Airwolf

They had kits long before Airwolf was on the air.

Still, a freestyle helicopter - if it was any good, he's got my thumbsup

Those were the ONLY options when we were kids.

Now when I go to look at Legos in the toy store it's all model kits. I'm sure they still have freestyle block sets, but they are hard to find.

I believe that model kits take the imagination out of it.

I only played with them on occassion. I had several sets and my brother had many more than I did. I liked to build the kits and never really go outside the box and tinker around. My imagination kind of sucked...I always had these great ideas, but I didn't know how to make them. I would sometimes discuss cool designs with friends and have them build bad-ass ships, but I couldn't do it on my own; I lacked the creativity to construct the idea!

I played videogames as a kid. A lot. I have the first 70 or 80 issues of Nintendo Power stacked away in boxes at my parent's house. I loved the challenges and puzzles videogames presented, but I couldn't build crap with Legos. Whatever I built with Legos, it was always small and simplistic in design and I was always dwarfed by my friends' designs. However, if you wanted me to beat a videogame - no problem.

Go figure!

I missed that when I voted. Discount one "I love Legos" vote if you want to keep with the under 35 theme, 'cause I'm over 35.

No way, the base plates are key! As a kid, my dad built me a 5' x 5' table out of 2x4s and plywood and I had the most awesome lego city built out of connected baseplates.

For some reason I thought they were invented in the late sixties. Anyway, I've revised the poll/OP

I really loved the lego advanced (looks like it's called technic) stuff. Had little black rods, gears, cranks, etc. I buil7 a 4 cylinder, with cams piston motor when I was like 10, LOL. No kit, from scratch.

That would be late 70s, really early 80s..

What are you talking about? Blocks are great if you want to build castles or houses. Try building a truck without wheels, windshields, axles, angled pieces, etc.

Not around when I was that age - had to make do with Lincoln Logs & blocks.

However, I have compensated; kids & grandkids have buckets of them.

they have bins of just plain blocks (sizes & colors) at some Lego stores.

In Disney World, at the Lego store there, they have some large models outside for people to gawk at (10+ ft).
