I just setup a dual boot with Mandrake 9.2 and RedHat 9.0. I am too new to linux to
really have an educated preference but I like the look of KDE a little better. Also, just
installed Fedora on my other box. Now I have an opportunity to screw up three Linux OS's.

Out of curiosity, what do you see as the big GNOME improvements? I've always been a GNOME fan, but the last AT poll I recall was probably early in GNOME 2.2, and I don't see anything huge separating 2.2 from 2.4.

Not debating or anything - I just find it interesting how everyone has their own little deciding factors in evaluating desktops.

edit: Oh, yeah... while I'm at it, if y'all haven't checked out XFCE4, you really should. I just finished setting it up on my laptop from work - 1GHz Celeron w/256MB of PC133 and crappy video. GNOME worked, but felt a bit too sluggish. XFCE4, however, is sweet. Much nicer than the old version, IMO.

Personally I like gnome because I found it's easier to customize. Plus it's easy to set my own little private scripts as icons on the taskbar.

Metacity is something I don't like, but it's nice to be able to get rid of it easily. On /. is full of kde fans, they rave about how the copy paste crap is better and has a more unified interface, but that doesn't matter to me a whole lot.

Everytime I decide to try Gnome I just end up getting annoyed with it. Can't think of anything specific, just can't find the patience to give it a fair shot I guess.

Of course, now I have to work on SGI & Win2k ... ugh. Can't wait to get home to my linux box
