I just installed Kasperky. I can't compare it to Norton, but it is far easier to use than Trend Micro. The spam feature on Trend Micro was so aggravatingly slow, I turned it off because it was faster to delete the spam myself. Kaspersky seems very lightweight, as far as I can tell, only two processes totaling 30mb.

If I had to pick between ESET and Kaspersky, I'd choose Kaspersky. Among other things, when I send them a malware file, it gets handled by a real live person and added to their signatures in a matter of a few hours or less. Instead of being ignored.

I submitted a Zip file with some malware in it to a different company (which shall remain nameless) about ?18 months ago?, and just the other day their automated systems finally sent me a confirmation that said OH LOOK, ALL THOSE FILES TURNED OUT TO BE MALICIOUS! YOU'D BETTER DELETE THEM!

Well all rightie then. Glad I could help out

I just installed Nod32 on my system a few days back and it's been totally great (compared to the crappy Mcafee I was using earlier!) It doesn't slow down my system at all.

I prefer Avira with the avnotify.dll clamped down against execution so the nag screen is suppressed.

Nod32 was okay, but I don't like to reinstall every 90 days. And Kaspersky being from Russians creeps me out. I prefer to keep good neighbors with a fence against their software as much as possible.

Just recently bought Nod32 and it's great, doesnt take up much resources and it doesn't bug me alot of the time as many AV's do.

* Also Eset's HQ is within driving distance from me

Oh, so you live in Slovakia? Maybe you mean their distribution center in San Diego.

I think both are great, but I love Kaspersky. Let me tell you, it slaps around McAfee and Norton easily.

I don't know about that the new Norton 2009 products are pretty sweet.

Then I had a friend install Norton 360 + Kaspersky on top of another older Norton.

And they were wondering why their computer was slow

After reading Newegg reviews, message boards and searching the internet in general, I have found hundreds of reviews comparing either Nod32 or Kaspersky to virtually every other AV on the market, and yet, I never see them compared to each other by average users. I wonder if this is because they are both so good and pretty much equal, that once people happen to use one, they are very satisfied and never see any reason to try the other one.?!

I too wonder how they compare head to head. Anyone who has used both care to let us know?

I have Nod32 on my laptop. I used to have Nod32 on my desktop, but decided to try out Kaspersky.

I don't think it matters for most users. (Especially performance wise, I would never know the difference. Then again both computers are at least dual-core with oodles of ram.)

Testing usually shows Kaspersky to have a stonger detection rates than Nod32. This is what lead me to try them out, along with their extremely prompt detection file updates. But, the flip side is that false positives pop up every now and then with Kaspersky. Usually they are just minor annoyances. Small price to pay for solid security.

Though, when I installed IE8, Kaspersky blocked the registration of a file and wound up jacking up my Vista x64 sidebar. The sidebar would always crash. I thought it was a problem with IE8, but after digging the problem was with Kaspersky and eventually found a fix on their forums. It wasted a solid hour of time and if something like this happens again it'll make me think twice about renewing my license. Other than that though, it has been great.

I guess just go for whatever is cheaper.

Last year when I used it, Kaspersky AV would try to update every hour and and annyoying popup would show if update attempt fails.

NOD32 has less annoying alert when update fails and does not try to update too frequently.

ADD:
Pricewise, you can a good deal on NOD32 on newegg from time to time. I'd rather pay a small price to getting it for free but having to go through the rebates hassle.

I prefer NOD 32, It works great for my mother and my not so computer savvy friends.
I like the fact that it stays out of the way and just does it's thing. I do feel that Kaspersky is VERY secure, but it's TOO secure and intrusive.
Recently I helped out someone that had Kaspersky internet security because the firewall was blocking everything. I also feel that NOD 32 has come a LONG way,
and has a very newbie friendly interface. No one every calls me with any questions about NOD 32.

Yeah, this link looks similar to the one I looked at.

Here's the fix:

1) Kaspersky blocks the jscript.dll from being registered for the x64 system.
2) Turn off Kaspersky and go to an elevated command prompt (Run as Admin) then simply type in:
3) regsvr32 jscript.dll
4) You are done, this registers the dll and fixes the shit Kaspersky blocked.
5) Don't come here for support on anything more advanced then walking down the avenue.

It's quick to do - be sure to run the command prompt as Admin. Good luck.
