Seeing as how ATi was late to the party with the Radeon last year and had a winner on its hands, do you think that ATi has something cooking up again? A phattydaddy Radeon2 to steal the thunder away from a months old GeForce3 by the time it gets here?

I think that ATi has the chance to pull an upset...IF they get their act together with drivers.

I don't think it'll be anything too earth shattering, and it'll be Aug or Sept before they release. At least that's my guess.

Doesn't have to be really, the Radeon is hardly earth shattering over the GF2 GTS, but it's enough better (in terms of features, the GF2 still takes raw speed) and enough cheaper to make it a worth while card.

In my personal opinion ATi is going to blow until they get good drivers and get unified drivers. With nVidia you know even a TNT1 is supported in the 7.xx dets...maybe no speed imporvments or anything over the 6.xx but at least you don't have to worry about drive updates fading into history. With ATi you can't even be sure you'll get drive updates for current product lines let alone past products.

In my opinion the Radeon hardware is much better than the GF2. But Good Hardware&Great Drivers (GF2) beats Great Hardware&Crappy Drivers (Radeon) every time. And while the Radeon's drivers are to the point where I wouldn't call them "crappy" anymore exactly, I'm still not fully confident in ATi's lasting support.

And also without a unified driver model they have to start down the ladder a ways and build back up with the Radeon2. With the GF3, nVidia basically has to add a few lines to their .infs and the GF3 will work with GF2 drivers (well it's not quite that simple, but it's better than a non-unified structure).

I think ATi has a ways to go before they can match nVidia.

i just dont see ATi pulling out an upset...every single ATi chipset has been flawed with lackluster drivers...even the awesome Radeon has big driver problems..especially in Win2K...how long has it been since the Radeon introduced? so much for their new 6 month product cycle.

I wont be buying a GF3 as i dont ever plan on spending $600 on a Video Card and I also have a 64MB GF2 GTS which is working just fine for me right now. I of course will read about it some and obviously be playing with ones that are out on Display during E3 this Coming May

Does not really matter since Nvidia are on a 6 month cycle so you will be seeing faster Nvidia cards on the horizon,& even if ATi does pull something out of the hat no Video card remains top dog for long nowadays. This is progress which we the consumers pay big money for, only one thing is certain they will be expensive.

Yeah, I don't think price for the Geforce 3 is going to be an isue if the ATI is going to be released in 6-8 months. By december, I think we'll see the GF3 below 4 bills (or maybe I'm just dreaming !). It's really a tough call though. In your situation though Adul, (I believe u have a tnt2 Ultra right?), getting a GF3 doesn't sound so crazy. I honestly think the if the MSRP of the GF3 MSRP is going to be around 6 hundred, the street price will probably be at around mid to low 500's. If that's the case Adul, going from u're TNT2U to the GF3 is not a bad idea!

I think they CAN do it .....and they probably will. Even so, the Radeon2 doesnt have to be the fastest card in order to be the best. Radeon right now is WAY better than the GF2, its much cheaper, has killer features, great image quality....

speed is not everything and you cant judge a card only on its speed..

Now if theres a way to ramp Kyro processor and memory speeds to, maybe 200/200, they can give any video cards a run for their money.

Upset. ATI is a much larger company than nVidia, and they still dominate the graphics card market. I think Rage Fury Maxx, being their first attempt at serious 3D, came up way short. But because of it, no one thought they would even have anything on the next go 'round, but look what they came up with. They went from not even being able to compete with Voodoo2, to beating (for a short time), GeForce!

I think now that they realize the amount of $$$ involved in 3D, they will make every effort to produce the best product, and because of their size, they should have the best product on the market soon. Only time will tell.

As for the prices of these things... eeak! 600 bones:Q
5ns RAM is obscenely expensive.

I can't wait for cards to need like 256MB

NFS4, you just love to stir it up eh?

I'm hoping for Kyro to release something.. ATi, maybe, but Kyro is my biggest hope! I don't know anything about Matrox, but I certainly hope they figure something out soon, or risk going bankrupt.

it doesn't have to be faster if its out in a short amount of time and is "only" $300. if its faster than a gf2u and the same price, it should win the market. i think nvidia is going to lose money on the gf3.
