QFFT. God forbid a breast should be used for anything non-sexual.

Heh, I think it's worse than that. Remember the parental magazine with a baby and a boob on the cover...... LOL, the drama.
yeh, but you only heard from the handful of loonies who were offended. i'd bet most people couldn't care less.

you know what I would like to see... all of the ATOTer's who voted no to be taken to one of Australia's many beaches or public swimming pools on a hot summers day and watch them freak out at all of the nekkid boobies...I reckon it would be pretty funny to see them all run for the dunnies to have a tug.

no they would love it.

its the fact that they know the mother has the breast out and someone is sucking on it. they think thats a sex act. not to mention most people are brainwashed to a degree that they think boobs are only sex objects. So they get offended over something that they can not see but imigin. but i do have to say i have seen one or two mothers that whip out the breast and you see everything. but 99% take care that you do not.

at a beach you see far more. but they expect to see most of the boob. not to mention it is flashed all over TV in shows etc.

Let me ask you two questions:

1. How often do you actually encounter women who are breastfeeding in public?
2.Of those you do encounter how many just "whip out a tittie" for the world to see and go at it without a towel or other cover over the baby?

You sound like this traumatizes you. Get over it.
I'm pretty sure I was breastfed, but I don't know. I don't care. If my mom breastfed me in public, I don't think it was courteous of her to do that.

There are plenty of natural things people do that we don't allow in public. Stop it with this natural bullplop. Urinating and defacating are perfectly natural but you don't see people who "really need to go" just stopping in their tracks and relieving themselves.

Well, that creates a mess. So to prevent this, what if they carried around a bag or a bottle so that there was no mess?

And what is so horribly wrong about being bottlefed? Can you not milk the mother's milk into a bottle and then serve it up whenever the baby is hungry?

You responded to what is the least important part of my post. Care to answer the other 2 questions?

I also find it laughable that you equate public defacation with breastfeeding. See Babbles' post on controlling urges.

Why the fsck would this bother anyone?

It's completely natural and there is no logical reason to ask/force people to hide it.

I don't feel as if there should be any specific laws prohibiting the act, but rather some simple guidelines.

1. If you have yet to sit down in an *empty* food court, don't sit at the table right next to me. I actually had this happen last week: I was eating a slice of pizza in a 100% otherwise empty food court (literally just me, it was early on a week day so school was in session), when a woman walked up and sat *no more* than three feet away. She began breastfeeding while talking on the cell phone. She could've at least sat one table over.

2. Don't do it in a movie theater. Once the movie starts, please excuse yourself and your infant the moment it begins crying, *regardless* of the reason (hungry, needs a change, etc.).

Actually, that's all that really bothers me.

well both are natarual. but a adult can control when he has to poop. a infant can not control w hen he is hungry.

when it is hungry it needs food NOW. not 10+ minutes away to get home or to the bathroom. it needs food now.

thats not saying a women should whip her boob out in the middle of the checkout line. you know when your child is going to be hungry. why not find a bench (every store i have seen have some tucked in kinda hidden places around the store) and do it? not to mention 99% try to be descret about it.

I don't want to see it.

Sexual act or not (it doesn't matter) .. breastfeeding in public is as REQUIRED as masturbation in public. Find a bathroom. People with crying babies get up to leave all the time... at least the respectable ones do.

When's the last time you ate your lunch or dinner seated on a toliet ?

I breastfed and between nursing bras and tops and a simple baby blanket the entire process was quite discrete. Not to mention that it meant a very quiet baby in restaurants.

Things are pretty tacky out out there already, the last thing I want to see is you semi naked, since chances are you arent a "10" anyway. I mean why else are you trying to shock the public with your display of nudity under the guise of "feeding your baby" when all you really want to do is expose yourself in public.

Do that at home or in your car if you like, but not at Best Buy. We dont need to see pancake areolas.

The reason I bring this up is because a local woman in Dallas was asked to leave a store when she wanted to breast feed in a waiting area at a furniture store. The store owner told her no and asked her to leave. She called the cops and the cop said if it was his store, he would ask her to leave as well. She left mad and called a local TV station.

So what do you think?
I think you need to take the stick out of your ass.

I think if it's somewhere kids are going to be - like most public places, then people should be considerate enough to respect parent's preferences that their children not be exposed to that. I'm not saying it's unnatural or disgusting but if I had kids I would not want them to run across that.

On the other hand, it is possible to do it without being indecent at all, as Geekbabe pointed out. If you can do it in a way that won't attract attention then go for it. I have a feeling the person the OP is talking about wasn't being discrete.

As a husband I'm really not sure what my feelings would be on the subject. I'd have to think I'd prefer it not to be done in such a public place because the are plenty of pervs out there.

However those of you who refuse to acknowledge the parallel between procreation and breastfeeding are simply feigning enlightment. If your argument is that something which is natural and necessary should be done in public, sex fits both of those criteria. Without it, there'd be no need for breastfeeding. Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that you've drawn the line for acceptable public behavior differently than someone else. So before you chastise someone else for where they draw their line, maybe you'd better think about where you've drawn yours.
don't compare sex to breastfeeding. that's really a reach. breastfeeding is nutrition for an infant.
Wow, thanks for making my point. Way to be closed minded.

I have a pet peeve for idiots like this that attempt to be clever and insightful but fall quite short of both. It's even better when they imply that they have achieved "enlightment" [sic] more so than the rest of us mere mortals.

If you fail to understand the concept of controlling your bodily urges - i.e. having sex right here right now in a public places because, hey it's natural - then you have some serious issues to work through. I doubt most babies have that sort of control and as such do what comes quite natural to them: cry when they are hungry which can, and should, be alleviated by breast feeding.

It's really disturbing that you can not distinguish the differences between an adult controlling their urges and a baby.

Who's saying they've achieved "enlightment"? (thanks for pointing out and harping on a typo by the way, truly the mark of a jackass with nothing useful to say) Certainly not me. I only claim to know that I'm not going to tell someone they're wrong for disagreeing with me.

If you fail to see an parallel between two completely natural acts, there's nothing I can do to help you. Continue to wallow in your own self-appointed superiority. Jackass.

Breast feeding is a natural part of infant child rearing.

I think breast feeding in public should be done with discretion but it is perfectly acceptable. If you find it disturbing then don't look.

When most of you guys grow up, actually get some real sex with an actual woman, maybe have a wife and kids... I know that is too much to hope for for most guys on this forum... you will look at breast feeding in an entirely different light.

You would be surprised how many people care. People just don't want to speak up because they'll anger the public and that's just how life is sometimes. As a man, I would hate to see some woman with saggy boobs breastfeeding her child in public, thereby, making everyone around her feel uneasy. Do that crap at home!!!

So if she was a supermodel with beautiful perky breasts, you would be all for it?

The act IS NOT sexual, people.

And for the last time, I ask: How often do you actually see women flashing their breasts around while breastfeeding in public and not disctretely covering themselves with a blanket or towel?

I was in this coffey shop, and a group of women were sitting near the counter. One of them was brest feeding a baby and chatting with her friends. So the clerk asks me what I want, I nod towards the woman with the baby and said, "I'll have what he's having".
One of my better moments.

Anyway, IMHO public breast feeding is OK, as long as you don't expose the "whole thing" if you know whaat i'm saying. Keep it covered as much as you can, that's the only solution I can think of
