<< one has to wonder why they'd want to put up with the driver reputation. >>

There is a driver REPUTATION from the old Rage days, there are NO driver ISSUES with the Radeon.

well it seems that if you install all your patches then it should work. Its probably the same with geforce anyways. I wanted the ATI over the nvidia for one reason. 2d quality. 1600x1200 @ 85hz, is a totally different thing with the radeon. Guess what that is. USESABLE! for games and stuff, even though the radeon is slower (hell i've got the fanless one running at 148mhz) it still is plenty fast so its a great card, because of its 2d and dvd, which the geforce has yet to show me it can do as well.

W2k sp1, Asus P3V4X mobo, Radeon 32MB DDR, Driver version 3073 - no problems. 2D and 3D quality are excellent. I play mainly Tribes (OGL) and UT(D3D). FSAA seems to work fine in these, but I prefer higher resolution (1280x960) over lower resolution w/FSAA.

The 7072 seems to lock me up now and then, I reformatted clean install just win98 dx8, 4-1, drivers. still locks up now and then.

Hans007 did your reinstall the 4-1 after the card drivers.

I was reading over at rage3d that the present drivers are still based on the Rage128 core. We have a Radeon card but using rage128 drivers

All of this is minor however comapred to the Radeon's not supporting VfW.

what's vfw?
I think I will get the Radeon 64 VIVO. When I went from matrox to nvidia I gained 3d and lost quality on 2d especially at high resolutions. seems like Radeon will return the picture quality and give 3d performance of mid level geforce. That sounds good to me.

Taz4158 I am assuming that you are the same Taz on rage3d, and if so you do know there is driver issues for the radeon and will still be until they stop modifying rage 128 drivers and rebuild them into a unified driver. I personally have not had any driver issues once the Radeon was up and running. But after a format getting it set up is like pulling teeth. But for all the naysayers out there remember there is still no games, to my knowledge anyways, that take advantage of the radeons third texel in the pipeline. Now that game developers have seen that the radeon is being accepted by the gaming community we may start to see games take advantage of this. Also when directx 8 is more widespread we will also see the gap close between the geforce 2 and the radeon.

You lose all credibility when you make stupid statements like this. ALL video cards have driver issues!! I agree the Radeon drivers are pretty good now (a lot better than they where in August when I got it), but there are still people having problems with them.

Just because you aren't having any problems doesn't mean the drivers are perfect. If the drivers where as perfect as this, Rage3D would not get any where near the number of posts that it does.

Of course there are people who have problems with them and there are people who have problems with nVidia and S3 and 3DFX. An issue implies there is a widespread particular problem or problems which there are not anymore than with any other card. And it's funny how most of the people who've had problems realize it was something very simple they did or didn't do isn't it? Of course the drivers are not perfect for perfect drivers don't exist. Are they fast, stable and work for the vast majority of people with few or no problems? Yes they do. Far too many people confuse the ATI of the Rage 128 days with the ATI of the current Radeon age and they may be missing out on a great card for reasons which no longer apply.

yea i had a rage128 when it first came out. I thought it was a tnt2 killer. Not quite... and the drivers took a while to become competitive. Hopefully they make the win2k drivers just like the win98 ones. I'm already running the special release ones, and well just make sure you reinstall your via agp 4.04 driver, when you install an ATI driver and you are ok

Another poll needs to be started for the Radeon AIW......

ATI hasn't adressed problems with the KT133 chipset and multimedia functions....None of the beta's work right.

Anyway I would suspect alot more disatisfaction among AIW owners

I guess I am "missing out" because the support for Linux really sucks. I would definately call this an 'issue' that would keep alot of people from buying the card. I think you could go so far as to call this a "WinVideo" card.

Quoted from NicColt:

They do the same for me, even after a clean reinstall.

Not a biggie for me. I have Linux on my play box. I can see where it might be an issue for others though. Guess they'll buy nVidia then. Such is life.
