Poll: RADEON users: are you satisfied with drivers?

I'm not saying you are either way. I don't own the card because things like drivers and fsaa performance put me off. but looking around, driver issues with the Radeon certainly pop up a lot.
so if you could at least click on the poll icon, all potential buyers of this card which has a lot of life left yet, can get a good idea...
any anecdotes or experiences either way are welcome. don't get afraid of flames, just post what happened to YOU and nobody can reproach you.

I use the offical release drivers myself. The only games i play are CS and EQ...oh yeah and madden 2001, so i have been satisfied. Can't wait for the new games that will support all the new hardware features to try it out.

I'd be interested to see the difference.

Win9x (7072): Yes, but I would like to see some more speed though. Contrary to popular belief around here, speed in fps is a part of visual quality.

Win2K (5.13.3100): Yes and no. 2D was fine, 3D crashed constantly.

Linux XFree86 4.0.2: HELL NO. I can't get it to work at all. I have tried for 4 days now and XWindows doesn't work. I can't get 3D to work w/o XWindows.

The Radeon is a good card that will only get better when more drivers come out.

BTW, I overclocked the card to 183/183 today using powerstrip and only got a couple frames difference in demo127.

the 7072 for Win98 are OK. ATI drivers are getting better, but there is always room for improvement. As for speed, it looks like there won't be much more out of the current Radeon chipset. There is some snippet of an interview over on Rage3d.com, and the guy suggests that the speed of the current drivers is the best we are gonna get.

I'm running 7041's in win98 and 3072's (I think) in win2k...no problems ever. Getting everthing to work right in win2k took some TLC but it's all good!

I recently had problems with my Radeon. I'm a web designer, and found a huge problem with Flash 4/5, I couldn't draw or design anything properly. Fortunately the new 7072s fixed the problem, and there seems to be no problems yet.

I'm very satisfied with my Radeon and the drivers I use.

Using the 7068's & DX8 in Win98SE, 3073's & DX8 in W2K. VIA 4.28's in Win98, 4.25a's in W2K.

Everything works great.

The 7072 drivers seemed buggy in my system, I got the "desktop whiteout" problem when exiting games.

win98se and im using the latest beta's 7072 but also have the withe-out problem.

People are hoping for some unified drivers with a large speed-boost and because of that people are not that satisfied with current drivers

A little history... I used to lurk and see flame posts about which video card was better, like GTS, Radeon and Voodoo5. I think that as reviews have proliferated, everybody knows that the GTS is really the fastest, that Radeon is at least as good at maximum resolutions, and that the Voodoo5 is well liked for FSAA and lack of driver problems despite lacking raw geometry speed or fillrate.
Out of 20 posts, 7 related directly to the Radeon, and often express concern at the drivers. People seem to need to talk about this card a lot, and this suggests people need to ask more questions about it because it has more problems. I could do a more thorough statistical analysis but I'll stop there.

i've got it in win2k, with the newest special version drivers. It crashed in 2d right when i installed it. Rebooted hasn't crashed since. Then it screwed up my multimonitor setup. Reinstalled my secondary card, fixed that. Then it crashed in counterstrike after 20 minutes. Reinstalled vgart drivers. Played counterstrike again, didnt crash, but it might later who knows. SO far, i think this is more work than i should have to do, considering the matrox g400 it replaced didnt have all these problems. Somehow its actually running at 4x agp on a kt133 which is amazing that that worked. Hopefully it doesnt crash in counterstrike anymore, and i'd be happy.

I am using the latest special release drivers on DX8 in Win2k and everything is very smooth. I love this card so far, been great in Win2k, 98SE, and WinMil without any issues to speak of. Much prefer it over my old GTS, in 32 bit its smooth as all get out.

Or maybe there is simply a disproportional amount of people buying Radeon's vs other cards, so that is throwing off your analysis .

i fixed it. i was told that everytime you install the radeon drivers it overwrites you VIA vgarts, so i reinstalled and it fixed

comp10, I did think of that and write that somewhere else. maybe it's the feature set of the Radeon which attracts people. when for most people the GTS surpasses it or the MX matches it, one has to wonder why they'd want to put up with the driver reputation. the poll is going well for Radeon. I'm a bit surprised actually.

No surprise here. It's a shame you never actually tried the Radeon before going off on your various tirades. As for your erroneous MX comment above, let's just say you're not even close to the truth.
