I picked up a PNY GF3 Ti200 from newegg a few hours ago. I have read good things about it, plus it has DVI

I just ordered a Gainward from newegg. I've read that it has great 2d and OC's well. Plus it's red!!! Can't beat that!

The Leadtek card is purported to be the best 2D quality and to have "cherry picked" core and memory so as to overclock higher. Not sure if this is true but the reports are widespread.

The best deal, IMHO was the Visiontek Ti 200 from Best Buy for $99.00. Of course, that's assuming the $50 MIR comes in. Even at $150 it was a pretty good deal. I wouldn't get the Visiontek card if it's near the same price as Leadtek or Gainward.

I have the PNY GF3 Ti200, and it's a fast mofo. It overclocks well too! I'm almost at GF3 500 levels...

gotta say the PNY sucks...I have it and with 4ns ramchips, it should be able to hit 500 but can only go upto 480 WITH thermaltake copper ramsinks applied with AS thermal adhesive. it's rock solid at 230/480 but it should be able to hit 500 with stock ramsinks. and IT CAN"T

My Gainward is fast and stable at 240/500, with room to spare when I feel like squeezing it a little more.

Hmmm... not very conclusive, I'm considering the PNY, Leadtek, Visiontek or Gainward now though.

Leadtek!

This article from FiringSquad still comes to mind:

To keep images sharp when scaling to high resolutions, the output circuitry on the video card must be able to compensate the increased number of draw lines by stabilizing output power. Before the WinFast GeForce3 TDH, no other NVIDIA based card on the market - with the exception of the Canopus X20 (available only in Japan) - used high-quality filter components. The lackluster filters that are used on most NVIDIA cards degraded the overall image from the GPU.

Image quality is one of the primary reasons why a company like Matrox chooses to manufacture its own boards. By doing so, Matrox can control the quality of components used on its products because it purchases them itself. While being a chip maker does give NVIDIA advantages, it limits NVIDIA's ability to keep a high level of quality control. NVIDIA will define what components to use on its products but board manufactures are not always interested in quality before bottom line.

During our tests with a Matrox G450, G550, ATI Radeon VE, Radeon All-in-Wonder, the WinFast Ti 500 showed better image consistency than any other card. While the Matrox cards were already displayed razor sharp text, the WinFast slightly passed it in terms of resolution scaling. At 1600x1200x85Hz, lines and text on the WinFast Ti 500 exhibited no noticeable ghosting or blur while the G550 showed very faint signs of edge blurriness.

Visiontek...one fast fvking card! Although, if you do get the Thermaltake Ramsinks, use AS adhesive because thermaltake's crap makes em fall off :Q

GTaudiophile, that article is for the TI500, do you know if the same is true for the 200; and do Leadtek cards OC well??

I got the impression that Leadtek uses HQ filters on all their new cards. If not all, then at least with all the TDH cards. It would make no sense from a supply/manufacturing standpoint to use the HQ filters on one card.

I can get my MSI Starforce Ti200 to 210/470(220/480 I get artifacts). I can live with a GeForce 3 for the small price ($170) of a Ti200.

My MSI Starforce gets up to 210/515 with no problems at all. Take the core any higher and it dies tho.

hey Buster, i'm gonna try that, not raising the core higher than 210 thanks.

Well I tried it and I barely ever get artifacts on 200/470 but artifacts are artifacts, so 200/460 is where i'll stay until i get some extra cooling, good news is it didn't hard lock at 210/490.

With extra cooling I guarantee this card will be a GeForce3 Ti500.

Visiontek ti200
got mine from the black friday BB deal--

Anywayz, it runs 230/500 with 3Dmark 2001 w/ no artifacts. (6300+ score)

Could be just mental, but the 2d seems to look uglier than with the Radeon.

Just get the cheapest one with the longest warranty. Some cards may have better 2d because of purportedly better filters but as for OC ability, there really is no guarantee
that a particular card will OC better than others (unless they handpick and test each GPU and memory). A perfect example is some people report higher
OC than some people with the exact same card. My PNY can easily do 215/500 with no artifacts or errors but some may have different results.

"The cheapest one you can find because they are all pretty much the same."

What?????? The ram on TI-200 based video cards is landing all over the map. 4ns, 3.8ns, 3.6ns, and now 3.3ns. With the cheapest generic TI-200's costing $150 plus shipping, how can ANYTHING be recommended other than the 3.3ns EVGA card that has about 6 listings on Pricewatch starting at $175?

Go get the EVGA TI-200 and your memory, rated at 600mhz, should do at the least 580mhz with upside potential to 600+mhz
