If it is at 4AM or on a weekend, yeah, it is rude. If it is on a work day, and at 6AM+, if you're getting all upset, you either don't have a job or are a moron. Either of which, I'm okay with you getting a good smack upon the head!

Fuck his neighbour. Tell him to upgrade his windows/doors/insulation.

I don't think it's inconsiderate at all. The word "inconsiderate" means "thoughtlessly causing hurt or inconvenience to others." Who thoughtlessly blows snow off the drive in the early morning? It's not like its a normal thing. It's a response to an unusual event that has to be dealt with.

The over-sensitive neighbor is the one who's being inconsiderate, in that he/she is the one who is "thoughtlessly" causing hurt or inconvenience by lashing out and making the snowblower feel bad over something he really has no choice about.

Given the OP's choices I voted no .... BUT ... poll needs an option like "depends on how early & circumstances" (explain in your post)

That's against the city ordinances here.

No 2-stroke engines after 10PM or before 7AM.
Most snow blowers are 4-stroke :whiste:

Chainsaws, leaf blowers and weed eaters are 2-stroke

Well, I happen to work on the weekends. And we are going to get snow again this weekend. So I may be snowblowing again on an early weekend morning.

And there is no way I could snowblow at 6 AM and make it to work on time, t has to be done earlier.

Until I spoke with my buddy about his argument, I never really thought about this type of scenario. I kinda view it as a necessity up here in NH.

Yes it has a muffler, but regardless it is still loud.

I guess my question really is, regardless of the law, would something like this bother you? I live in NH and snow is a reality here. Its not like mowing your lawn. You dont need to mow your lawn at 3 AM but if you can't get out of your house, well you need to snowblow whatever time that is. Plus with all of the snowplows and salt/sand spreaders going up and down the streets, there is alot of noise anyway.

Exactly, I shovel the driveway at 530 AM central time in MN and with the metal shoveling is loud at that time as well. But I have seen others use their snow blower that early. But after most snow falls we have the plow come through at 4am and their backup beeps wake us up. They backup since we are in a cul de sac.

People need to understand if you go to work early that you need to clear your driveway and give you a pass every now and then.

Last week the mall behind by house decided load their snow banks into a dump truck. They were out doing it for two nights, one from 4am to 7am and another from midnight to 4am. Naturally I didn't get any sleep. All you could hear was them revving the Diesel engine of this front end loader, then the beeping of the backup alarm. This is like right outside my bedroom window. This is during the week when I have to go to work the next day.

Apparently the town constitutes it as ploughing so they basically told me to fuck off when I complained. It's been an ongoing issue with this plaza though. They do all their maintenance in the wee hours of the morning. They're also the only plaza in the area that does that. Town doesn't care, even when they are clearly violating the bylaw. Cops just say phone the bylaw. So what do you do in this situation? That's not a rhetorical question.

Fvck the neighbor. On the other hand, it would have been a nice gesture at the time to offer to do his walk while he's at it, but having lived in a metropolitan snow area, you get used to the supers and landlords getting out there early taking care of their buildings and tennants (and you get used to the lazy ones not doing sh!t til noon.)

I live in MI and we deal with snow as well. I have never heard anyone complain about snowblowing. I have never even thought of complaining about it, its part of life. What kind of moron would complain?

My driveway has the sq footage of a small parking lot. I can fit at least 10 cars there.

just curious, but if you know ahead of time that snow will be coming, why wouldn't you park your car in such a spot that you've got the littlest amount of snow to remove as possible?

back when I actually had a driveway and I knew snow was coming, I'd street park overnight (or park on the edge of the driveway) so that I only had to worry about digging out my own spot.

And what if your job requires you to be in work at 4am on a weekend? Then you yourself would be allowed to do it at 3am because it's a work day. If it's okay to do it at 6am on the theory that the idiot in question needs to get to work then it's okay to do it 24 hours a day 7 days of the week as long as you have the justification that it's to get to work.

That's pure idiocy. If the snow is so bad that you need a snowblower at 6am then stay the fuck home. And if it's not that bad, use a shovel.

During the work week I have no problem with running the snow blower to get out and go to work. Everyone around me does it too. Now the guy next door who snow blows at 8am on a saturday is a douche.

This is seriously foreign to me. How could you complain about snowblowing? How?

I have seen people snowblow for their neighbors. I have seen people snowblow the street when the plow doesn't come fast enough. I have never saw someone complain about snowblowing.

I'm not the only person living here. My GF needs to get out of the driveway too and I have tenants who need to leave as well so the driveway has to be done, no question about it.

if I park my car in the street, I would find it buried by the snowplows and then I would have to snowblow that out. And use the shovel too since you cant get too close to the car with the machine. So thats an even bigger pain in the ass. And, our city declares a snow emergency during winter storms and street parking is forbidden

I have an electric snow blower that's super quiet, so I wouldn't hesitate to use that at any time. A loud gas one though could break noise ordinances, so you have to be careful at that time.

7 am to 9 pm are generally when you're supposed to be quiet. Different for every town.
Worst. Town. Ever.

(or maybe the best if they don't give a shit if you party hard from 9pm to 7am).

Is it rude and inconsiderate of your neighbors? Yes.

Is it an inconvenient necessity? Yes.

Would I bitch and complain if I was your neighbor? Hell yes.

Would I call the cops over the probable noise violation? Unlikely unless it went for a long time.

Doing this if you have to go to work...OK.
Doing this so you can go play...NOT OK.

Just another reason why...FUCK SNOW!

What time was your buddy using the snow blower?

Also, as the others have stated, check with your local laws/ordinaces on what times are OK for LOUD NOISES!
