Don't understand the neighbor complaining. I also have never heard anyone complaining about the plows running or snowblowers going. Have heard (and offered) many complaints about them *not* running before I have to be out and about.

Besides, it's winter, the windows are closed, the snowfall is dampening the sounds, unless the neighbor is wide awake with his ear to the window he shouldn't be getting bothered by it.

Maybe the neighbor would be better off complaining to the weather forecaster who scheduled snow for overnight. Obviously they should schedule during the day for his convenience.

I live in MI and we deal with snow as well. I have never heard anyone complain about snowblowing. I have never even thought of complaining about it, its part of life. What kind of moron would complain?

look man, some days i wake up at the crack of noon. i can't be disturbed by some buttfacehole who wants to snowblow at 6,7,8, or 9 AM. what ever happened to courtesy?

I am from the north and deal with snow regularly. Like a major storm yesterday and another coming tomorrow. And rather than needing to grow up, people in my neighborhood grow brains and use a little bit of consideration and common sense. We don't run snowblowers at 5 or 6 am. I'll repeat, if the snow is so bad that you can't get out of your driveway without a snowblower call in sick. And if you can get out of your driveway without a snowblower, then do so. It's not rocket science.

what about the ice wall the snow plow leaves behind? That stuff is pure ice and if it has been sitting there all night it is almost solid ice. I ain't shovelling that shit.

I feel sorry for your buddy having such a self centered dickhead for a neighbor. Next time he comes over aim the snowchute his way. The pettiness of human nature never ceases to amaze.

<--- was out in the dark this am snowblowing and odds are I will be doing so at least twice more this week. Calling in sick is not an option for those of us who are self-employed.

Never once have i heard anyone complain about using a snowblower. I live in a town home cul-de-sac where the houses are pretty close and no one has complained about snowblower usage.

My closest neighbor is like 100+ feet away so I guess this won't ever be a problem. When I'm outside I can hardly even hear his snowblower. The snowblower has a pretty even noise anyway which isn't really that annoying. Anyway, no one is out there snow blowing for fun they're doing it because it has to be done.

My neighbors dickbag service has done it at 5AM and blown at least half the snow into my driveway. Glad I'm moving next month...

Tough shit.

Unless said neighbor is willing to shovel, he can shut his peck hole and just deal. How else can a person leave for work? I have never even heard of such a complaint. My guess is those who said it is valid have never experinced real snow. What's next ban the guys in pickups doing driveways just after a storm? Because they are up all night and damn loud too.

Next time the neighbor should call the police so that they can laugh at him.

I have a few shovels. I had a snowblower, but got rid of it. I have a farm tractor with a bucket on it. I could put all the snow from my driveway onto the roof of my house if I wanted. I've cleaned the snow off the driveway exactly zero times this year. (I don't know how many feet of snow we've had so far.) Except for the pile at the end of the driveway that might be difficult to get past, and provided the driveway is relatively level, I can't understand the anal attentive fixation on "gotta see the blacktop!" No offense.

But, snowblower noise? If you live in the North, it's something you should learn to tolerate.

I have an asphalt driveway and if you leave snow on it, it ices especially when you drive cars that compress it down. My driveway is sloped so it does suck in the winter. I salt sometimes if the ice gets thick. The snowblower generally leaves an 1/4 inch or so of snow which is fine by me.

It's not so much the anal rententive nature. It's more that I'd like to get it cleaned down close to the concrete so that the sun can melt off the rest. That way you aren't driving over it non-stop and turning it into a compacted sheet of ice that takes weeks to melt away.

And since I've got a tractor with a front end loader I haven't used my snowblower either.

If it snows overnight and you blow early in the AM before you head to work, I got no problem with that. Even though I am a late sleeper, and I hate waking early in the AM, I can understand the situation of the person who may wish to blow the snow early.

That said, if it snows on Monday, and you leave the snow in your driveway all day tues and weds and then thursday morning at 5am you decide to snowblow it, then I might be upset.

But, I probably wouldn't care since I put my master bedroom in the basement, where it's quiet and dark and cool.

4am probably going to be illegal in a city. But you should do it and accept the karma.

Because us city folk tend to have ordinances that say shovel your snow or we'll do it for you, for a small fee of about $150.

Also what VI said. And it's nice not to have to wear boots to walk out of my house.

As for OP, no it's not rude.

Neither rude, nor inconsiderate. Time constraints sort of force you to do it, but frankly anyone who has no room to put up with such a slight inconvenience is rude and inconsiderate.
