Hourly, if you are allowed to milk the clock. If not, salaried is definitely the way to go. I never work more than 30 hours a week, I get paid for 40. Also, on the rare days that I stay in later than usual, I get comp time for the hour, estimated up. (If I work 1h 20m, I get 2 hours.)

I'm salary, and it has cost me nearly $100k of lost overtime in the 7 years I've worked here, including one month where I worked at least 190 OT hours. No bonuses, lower-than-inflation raises, and work-load is always more than 40 hours....

What, me bitter?

i'm salary and if i work OT, i can just elave early or come in late to make up for it. last year i got a $2000 bonus but this year i might not get anything or very little. they laid off a ton of people and sales haven't been up like usual.

Not true. There are jobs that are salary plus overtime.

hourly--you get paid for the amount of time you work.

with salary, usually you have to be there a minimum, expected amount of time. the last salary job I had it was 50-60 hrs--but we were only paid for 40.

the best, which you didn't consider, is by contract--you get paid an agreed-upon amount to do a job, and you go home when you get done.

Since when did salary start equating to no paid overtime? I know plenty of people who are salaried for 40 hours but get over time. I on the other hand am in an exempt position which sucks.

I'm salaried and I like it because I am lazy and I don't want to have to worry about punching some time-card. Also I can sorta come in when I feel like it (within reason, of course) take lunch whenever for however long I need to (within reason) and I leave whenever I get done for the day.

Downfall is, obviously, when I don't get paid for the time I spent on Saturday, the occasional Sunday, and when I go back to work for a few hours later in the evening and so forth. But with all things considered, I prefer salary over hourly.

Salaried is better if your employer retains respect for your time. Too often in my experience, however, any respect there might have been goes right out the window once you go salary.

I've kinda got the best of both - salaried with paid OT.

Salary FTW. Yes, you can potentially get paid more for OT by going Hourly, but it certainly feels good to be able to plan out finances with a fixed wage, and it's priceless to be flexible for stuff outside of work that you need to get done during the day.

Salaried + overtime FTW
I have a standard nr. of contract hours(7.45 /day) each month with a 20 hour margin(I can work 10 hours less and make it up the next month or work 10 hours extra for some extra margin)
I get payed a fixed amount each month everything above +10 hrs/month get's pay as overtime (150%)

Add to that the variable work hours (come in between 7:30 and 10:30, leave between 16:15 and 18:45) and I don't have a lot to complain about.
