oh and i dont understand why they give out hundred dollar tickets (might have since increased that was years ago) for not wearing a seatbelt, then they go and let anyone over 18 chose whether to wear a motorcycle helmet or not

All the passangers should have seatbelts on (but I ask only the front seat passenger to wear them (I wear them only when I'm on front seats)

I guess you guys know what will happend if the passengers back arent belted if you crash...1-2 tons hit you and you can consider yourself dead!

Yeah I do the same thing. But hey at least it's a good habit right.

Must say I'm a little suprised at the general response. Good to know so many people are anal about seatbelts.

Oh and about the auto belts, I have a '91 Integra with auto seat belts and I really don't like them. Any of you Canadians with '90-'93 teg want to trade me for your superior manual belts? I have been searching for some time now.

Yes, but a few months ago a god friend died when she was ejected, after he seatbelt broke in a cavalier. Her friend who was driving was also ejected and died ( i only knew of her, didnt know her)

My belt is automatic, but I always buckle up in the front seat of a car, never in the back.

I don't care if someone doesn't buckle up. If they want to die, go right ahead.

Glad there is a positive effect from those pushes.

Edit: I always buckle up front or back seat. My rationalization is that it only takes a second, how can you not do it?

As always anybody who doesn't wear a seatbelt shouldn't ask for pity when they find their head separated from their body on the side of the road. It's the most elementary safety measure and one which even a child can understand. To not wear one simply as a silent protestation to big brother illuminates nothing but one's own stupidity. Same goes for motorcycle riders who don't wear helmets. You literally were begging for it, so don't be surprised if I don't shed a tear for you, since you obviously didn't care about your life to begin with.

Everybody in my car buckles when I'm driving. No buckle = no ride.

If I'm in someone else's car, I buckle. Don't care about the rest. I'll poop on their graves!

before I got my license, I never buckeled up, but my driving instructor screamed at me so much that it feels completely unnatural for me to be in the front seats without my seatbelt on. I rarely put it on in the backseat, unless I'm driving with someone whose driving habits make me nervous.

I'm indifferent to my passengers, though. Seat belt or no is their choice.

Reminds me of a local story going on. Guy drifted over the centreline on the highway - it's a deadly stretch too, one of the worst in the country for wrecks - and got in a head-on with a sedan. He and his passenger survived (seatbelts on) and two of the other seven (yes, seven) in the other car survived. Coincidentally, those five who didn't weren't wearing seatbelts.

Yeah, it's his fault for drifting over the centreline ... but the other car also had 7 people in a 5-passenger sedan, and only two of them were buckled up.

The only seatbelt I concern myself with is the one that goes around me. I give mandatory seatbelt laws the consideration they deserve: none whatsoever.

I always buckle up but don't care if others do. In my car it's usually just my wife and I and we both buckle up. If I'm in someone else's car, I always buckle up but let them do what they want. It's their life.

I am assuming the people that buckle up but don't care about others will enforce their kids to buckle up all the same?

Since it is usually just my wife, my son and I in the car we are always buckled in. Sometimes I notice my wife doesn't put it on right away but I always make sure she puts it on.

I've never had an issue with any of my friends though with the exception of one. He absolutely refused to ever wear a seatbelt. Don't know why, he was just weird that way. I guess the thought of being forced to do something by law was more of an issue that safety. Never understood that one.

buckling up = habit.

Don't have to even think about it. Besides, I don't like the feeling of floating around in my seat. My front passengers also always wear it.

I always buckle up, and usually insist that my passengers do too. The only exception is my Grandpa. He won't buckle up, and its not worth the arguments to try and get him to.

I don't buckle, for medical reasons, unless I decide it's necessary. My passengers do. The fine for the driver is $25. Passengers: $50. I've gotten out of radar tickets with just a belt fine, no speeding ticket. As long as they can write you for something........

Been in enough accidents where I wasn't driving to know to wear when I'm a passenger, and I don't feel right not wearing one if I'm driving.

Man a lot of stupid people on here. Smart enough to wear one yourself but not make sure your passengers are. What do you think would happen if a 200lb bag of sand hit the back of your seat/head at 60mph. What about a 200lb bag of sand flopping around in your car while you roll.

Everybody in my car wears a seatbelt. I don't need you and your fat ass slamming into me should we get into an accident.
