I got a mildly hostile reaction from a coworker when I replied with the first answer. WTF. It takes 5 seconds and can save your life, as well as my windshield.

It's the law that ALL front seat occupants, not just the driver, have to be buckled up in Michigan. It's not even a thought when I get in the car - I look down, and the belt has somehow been buckled, even though I don't remember doing it.

Always buckle up - it'll probably save your life at some point, and there's really no reason to forego it.

Didn't for the longest time but started up with the latest click it or ticket push, now it's pretty much a habit~

Anyone who won't belt up in my car can get the fsck out of my car.

I don't tolerate any lip either. First time, I ask nicely. Second time, get out. You can die for all I care, but in someone else's car.

Um, duh? For future reference, threatening people to get them to do things generally won't make them like you. Next time, you might try: "Would you mind putting your seatbelt on? Thanks."

Seatbelts have saved me from going through the windshield of a vehicle not once, but twice. So yes, I buckle up all the time. Same goes for anybody that gets into my car (or any car that I happen to be driving for that matter)

My car doesn't have seatbelts. The original owner took them out and I never botherd to install any after I restored it.

My car has automatic seatbelts, so I never have to think about it.

I Think the law sucks though. I am 100% for anyone who is under the age of 16yrs must use a seatbelt, car seat, etc. But if a grown adult makes a decision that they choose not to wear a seatbelt, I dont think the city/state should fine them for it.

That was after I said "Seatbelts" to everyone then "Can you put your seatbelt on?" to the passenger beside me. He had his chance to put it on.

While I agree with you on the law (and how stupid adults should be allowed to kill themselves, just not in my car), I think you should know that those crappy motorized "molester" belts are extremely unafe. There is a reason that cars don't have them anymore (not since '93 IIRC). The tensioners are always loose. My sister just bought the steering wheel with her face last Friday while wearing one of those belts. The paramedics and police were so convinced that she wasn't wearing her belt that we had to snap pics of the monster "belt burn" it gave her on her neck and shoulder (and you only get those from a loose belt).
If I were you, I would pay to have that evil belt replaced with a real 3-point.

If you don't put the lap belt on, I hope you like getting strangled.

In some ways the auto-seatbelt without the lap belt is worse than no belt at all.

Here's the reason for seatbelt laws: Let's say Joe Moron doesn't wear his seatbelt, and goes to the hospital with severe brain damage, broken bones, etc, etc. Who pays for all that? Will Joe pay it all? HAH! Somewhere down the line, your tax dollars are going to help our dear friend with his medical bill.

Do you want to pay the medical bill for people who were too stupid to use free, easy protective equipment?

Anal about it...it takes all of two seconds to buckle up...not worth getting points off my licence and a fine.

For some reason I always buckle up when I sit in the front seat, I actually feel uncomfortable if I'm not buckled up like something is missing. When I sit in the back though, I rarely buckle up. Usually everyone who rides with me in the front seat has the courtesy to buckle up if for no other reason than I will not risk being pulled over. I wouldn't make anyone buckle up though, because a.) it's their life and b.) should we get pulled over an issued a ticket, they are paying not me.

I never had to ask passengers to buckle up. But then California has had this law for about 15 years, so it's second nature I say now.

Same here. I rarely buckle up in the back seat, but always in the front.

I tell EVERYONE to buckle up. Even the back seat.
You know what happens to a guy without seatbelts in the rear if you crash? ...... dramatic pause.......
Yes, he will fly into your back and kill you.

Oh, well then that's an adequate level of politeness. I hereby grant you my blessing regarding that man's upcoming asskicking.
