Assuming that it is a newly discovered exploit and there is no existing fix/patch.

Why should Microsoft be responsible because you are stupid enough to use their products? Take some responsibility for your actions, man.

No. Writing code for computers is not like building a car - it's nearly impossible to have a perfect product when you're talking millions of lines of code.

Thats like saying should Ford be responsible if I leave a briefcase in my car and someone breaks through the window and steals the briefcase.

You elected to use the products and not further protect yourself.

If I drive my car into your house, should Honda pay for the house. Stupid poll.

But if Ford built a car that had air bags and the air bags didn't deploy and a family member died because of it, Ford should not be responsible? Or am I SOL because I was dumb to buy a Ford?

I would say not, but MS is painting themselves into a corner by being the only real option for a lot of products. If most business use MS Office wouldn't it be in your best interest to learn it and use it at home.

Agreed. At this point in time, the "world" of computer programming flat out doesn't know how to make a perfect program, and it's not something that can be easily fixed. We can't just "do it better", a paradigm shift in hardware and programming itself is nessisary in order to be able to do this(otherwise we have to deal with the inheriant flaws in Von Neumann computing); the foundation with today's technology and languages simply doesn't allow perfect programming. The best we can do is "solid" programming, and minimize the security issues and virtually eliminate all non-security bugs(i.e. make an airbag that will always go off), but that kind of programming is extrodinarily time consuming and expensive, and would require a hardware freeze(no new hardware support in Windows) in order to pull it off.

You should read the EULA that you so readily click on "I Agree" whenever you install a Microsoft product. Who knows what you've agreed to. Probably your first born and your soul for all you know.

I don't know what that has anything to do with the subject but it was 1 vs. 2 ... also I was worried about them vandalizing my car.

Either way, I was civil, but you appearently are an idiot.

ANY OS can be made insecure through user installed software and stupidty. Relying on the OS to provide security is foolish. If you are not properly firewalled, this is not M$'s fault.

Firewalls are not always the answer. They reduce your risk, but you will be vulnerable on the ports that you leave open, like www.
