Why should Microsoft be responsible because you are stupid enough to use their products? Take some responsibility for your actions, man.
But if Ford built a car that had air bags and the air bags didn't deploy and a family member died because of it, Ford should not be responsible? Or am I SOL because I was dumb to buy a Ford?Originally posted by: Joker81
Thats like saying should Ford be responsible if I leave a briefcase in my car and someone breaks through the window and steals the briefcase.

of course not.
nobody is putting a gun to your head to use their products.
Agreed. At this point in time, the "world" of computer programming flat out doesn't know how to make a perfect program, and it's not something that can be easily fixed. We can't just "do it better", a paradigm shift in hardware and programming itself is nessisary in order to be able to do this(otherwise we have to deal with the inheriant flaws in Von Neumann computing); the foundation with today's technology and languages simply doesn't allow perfect programming. The best we can do is "solid" programming, and minimize the security issues and virtually eliminate all non-security bugs(i.e. make an airbag that will always go off), but that kind of programming is extrodinarily time consuming and expensive, and would require a hardware freeze(no new hardware support in Windows) in order to pull it off.Originally posted by: yllus
No. Writing code for computers is not like building a car - it's nearly impossible to have a perfect product when you're talking millions of lines of code.

i'll tell you what, if MS and all the companies that distribute linux were held fiscally responsible i guarentee you that linux would be long gone before MS felt the hurt. just because BS trades like eweek dont report on vulnarbilities in linux or oracle or sap or webspeher or notes or whatever doesnt mean they are not happening everyday. pull your fvckin head out of your ass.

Why am I the idiot? You are the dumbfvck for borrowing your classmates notes and not returning them when you said you would. You should have know ahead of time that he was gonna hand your ass to you on a silver platter ahead of time.Originally posted by: Xiety
I don't know what that has anything to do with the subject but it was 1 vs. 2 ... also I was worried about them vandalizing my car.Originally posted by: her209

Firewalls are not always the answer. They reduce your risk, but you will be vulnerable on the ports that you leave open, like www.Originally posted by: glugglug
ANY OS can be made insecure through user installed software and stupidty. Relying on the OS to provide security is foolish. If you are not properly firewalled, this is not M$'s fault.
