There is something to be said for strength in numbers. The US would be much less influential if it was 50 separate countries.

No, that would be disastrous.

The people of Scotland should still be charged appropriate sums for a wide range of things, such as petrol and fish.

You really don't want these highland cross-dressers to get off . . . wait for it . . . Scot Free!

Dear lord, such win

oh crap. I have been thinking "no" was the right choice all along but this changes everything.

If it's a perfect tie can we leave him in a rowboat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean?

Edit: Scotland should not be free. It should be tree fiddy.

I think Scotland should have more self governance. I do not know if it they need to be completely divorced from the UK.

I support self-determination... if the people of Scotland want to break free, I wouldn't support forcing them to stay.

that aside, it would probably work out terribly for them if they do.

I voted "plaid" because it doesn't affect me in the slightest...BUT, I believe the Scots are the only ones who should have a voice in this...and will vote in their own (usually) best self interest...NOT the best interest in their country.

Scottish people don't get to vote, people in Scotland get to vote.
If you are Scottish but live outside Scotland, you don't get to vote. If you are non-Scottish, including immigrants from the EU, but live in Scotland, you get to vote, as far as I am aware.

If he comes back, can someone please plant some drugs and a gun on him before he goes through airport security?

That would make for an amusing headline

I vote no, based entirely on what Renton told me: It's SHITE being Scottish! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the fucking Earth! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some hate the English. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are COLONIZED by wankers. Can't even find a decent culture to be colonized BY. We're ruled by effete arseholes. It's a SHITE state of affairs to be in, Tommy, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any fucking difference!

I vote no because I don't want to see Scotch get taxed to death and get more expensive than it already is.

plaid because the question is bad.

scotland IS free. unless of course if by free, you mean "at war with the english bastards down south, claymores at hand, warpaint on face", in which case No, not more than we can return the US to the indians, or break up germany into tribes, or return italy to the romans.

The scots today are just UK people. There's no difference between the two apart from the fact that the scots hate the brits. and each other. and anyone who is from celtic (or from rangers). or protestants hatin the catholics or catholics hating the protestants.
(oh and the glaswegians hating the edinburghians because "they sold them out")

On the economic side, separation from the UK would be the signal for the vultures to descend - what little advantage they would gain from running their own resources (the gathering of which is mostly run by UK companies now who woudl "sell" their services) would vanish to the speculators who have an opportunity to squeeze money out of a new market.

The "its now a foreign country" is an excuse everyone and their dog will use to raise prices.

Besides, the money westminster "syphons out of the scottish economy" is simply costs of running the country, which the scots haven't even got the infrastructure to handle, and when hey spend to build it, it won't come free.

Anyway, i'm fairly confident on a NO vote, most of the people around 'ere glasgow say yes but most of edinburgh is for no. People who have a business, or quite simply, A LIFE, don't want the potential for chaos, adding that it's evident to quite everyone that Salmond is doing this for personal gain.

On the other hand, the vast majority of losers, the drunks at the pub, are for a yes vote, ofc, because independence will solve ALL their problems and will make Scotland beat Germany at footie 6-0.

That could happen! The English national team certainly ain't got no chance! Just recruit a bunch of great players to nationalize into the newly formed Scottish Republic and they should be fine.

I have no real idea but I seem to recall every nation that has shed the parasitic crown of England from of its back doing much better on their own. The proximity of Scotland to Britain does set them up for foul treatment, similar to what Ireland endured.

Whatever happens, peace be with all parties involved.

the parasitic crown of England

Regardless of the outcome of the vote they're keeping the royal family. Anyway, England is just a part of the U.K., like Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. This isn't 300+ years ago. As far as "parasitic" goes, taxpayers in wealthier places like Southern England fund the poorer corners of the U.K.. Kind of like California and New York taxpayers helping keep up Alabama and South Carolina.

I don't know enough about that part of the world or their history... TBH I always figured they were separate already. But if they want to I say sure why not.

Speaking of separation, I think Northern Ontario should be separate from Southern Ontario. We need to start Le Bloc Ontario and get that ball rolling.
