We need the endless bashing since newer (and often better) monitors keep coming on to the scene.

Edit: sorry but I have to say it, what the heck is 'more better'?

lol dullard, ....its Engrish of course! My 4 year old is really good @ it
I just wasn't sure of the order. Does this order sound correct: Good, better, more better, best? Or does 'more better' come after 'best'?

Ok its too early. I won't mention spelling or other mistakes for the rest of the day.

it's a samsung 955SL. i got it because of the short neck. my desk it very narrow. i'm on the third rma'd one. the first two had to be replaced for different problems.

it's a decent monitor as far as crt's go, but the dell 17" LCD i have is much better. for me anyway. it's easier on the eyes, i don't do any FPS games. the only game i play is SC / BW.

so, for me, the lcd is the better choice.

My vote went to CRT, only reason is that I have't done any gaming on LCD's and when I see them at work, it's under yellow lights.

Guys, after I bought my PX171M (17" Planar 16ms) I don't think I will ever be able to go back. As far as I am concerned, the image quality is better, and I love playing games with this thing. I think that a quality 16ms LCD is where the line should be drawn. Oh, and I did go from a Samsung 900sl (I know old now) and like LeeTJ I really do prefer the LCD.

I'd like to hear a few more replies from people who have gone from a good quality CRT to an LCD, and are also fairly heavy gamers.

Nope, "more best" comes after "best"

w/o question, the top of the line CRT's are better than the top of the line LCD's, in my opinion anyway.

but when your talking mid range, it's very close but i'd take the LCD.

Low range a $250.00 LCD is better than any crt you can get in the low to low mid range.

bad crt's are really bad.

One other thing that i just thought of where LCD's have a small advantage over CRTs is that most good quality CRTs use AP technology, which means you have to put up with those gay lines across the screen. I know its being picky, but when ever i look at my neighbours Sony 17" CRT, i cant help but stare at those lines on a white BG. I dunno if I would get used to it, since i currently use a shadow mask CRT, but hey if your like me and hate those lines, it gives you another reason to like LCDs.

I agree, I like the quality of monitors with app grilles, but I can't stand those lines. I had a 15" several years back with a line 2/3s down the screen, and I couldn't stand it. Everyone always says you get used to it and ignore it, I never found that to be the case...it just got more annoying by the minute.

I'm using a 18" NEC 1850E LCD here at work now, and I love it. Not gaming quality by any means, but a huge improvement IMO over CRTs I've worked with. I'm seemingly sensative to flicker (i'm one of those few that can sometimes see flicker in the 75Hz refresh), and the no-flicker LCD feature alone got me hooked for 2D work...I'll wait until these <=16ms LCDs get more popular before I step into one for gaming...

WHAT!? I have a HITACHI 19" CM721F and it rocks for only $240, you can get a good CRT for a lot less than you can get a good LCD. A good LCD with same viewable size (18") would cost $600. And the 240 one would still beat it in resolution scaling. I dont have any lines across the screne or swirling either.

i don't know where you get that. i have a 19" samsung sitting next to a 17" LCD that cost me $600.00 18 MONTHS ago and they have the exact same viewable size.

you can get a good 17" for $450 to $500 now if you look.

i'm not arguing that LCD's are cheaper but that low end lcd's are preferable to low end CRT's. i hate low end crt's.
