Guiness Book of Wold Records online - Films
They have him with the
#1 action film of all time, Raiders of the Lost Ark
#3 Science fiction of all time, Star Wars.

This is soooo hard....

There are so many different genre's of film and periods of film...and so many good films from these directors that I have not seen.

I'm going to have to wait to see more Terence Malick...he's my favorite of the moment but I don't know if I'd say he's the best...

I'm not going to go over every movie George Lucas directed. Most of the ones you've listed he either wrote or produced. Maybe I was too broad by saying he's not a good filmmaker. What I should've said was that he's not a good director. He hasn't directed much. Star Wars and American Graffiti were probably his best films. He made them over 20 years ago. Episode 1 wasn't anything special as a movie. The only reason Star Wars really gets any recognition is because of its special effects which were way ahead of its time. He's not a good director. He's an excellent guy for special effects as well as writing, but when it comes down to actually MAKING the film, he's no where near one of the best.

<< Oh, I forgot to mention each and every director over at Vivid Videos >>

LOL!

On the subject now: KEVIN SMITH is my favorite director and he is not on your poll but its OK! I thought Clerks was one of the best truly independent films I have ever scene and his modern day commentary on organized religion, Dogma, was also a great Film. Mallrats will make me laugh everytime I watch it, and Chasing Amy is a true love story with out all that tacky sappy sentimental bullsh!t that you find in all those (insert actors name here)/Mega Ryan movies.

jerry bruckheimer is a producer, not a director, and may have one or two
films that i would applaud him for. he's otherwise been a very bad boy.

guy ritchie is cool.

<< Noriaki - I considered John Woo, I really loved his earlier work in HK with Chow Yun Fat, unfortunately he moved to Hollywood and the rest is history >>

Fair enough, I was reffering to pre-hollywood as well.

I like a few of his movies since coming to hollywood but certainly nothing that would qualify him as the greatest director.

Yeah brownie points for Terminator and T2, but I had to scratch him off my list for Titanic. Come on.....3 hours. Sorry to ruin the ending but ahh the ship sinks. Even hollywood can't be that liberal with history.

I'm surprised there haven't been as many votes for Hitchcock. The guy really knew how to spin a good thriller:

Psycho
The Birds
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Vertigo
North by Northwest
Spellbound
Rebecca
Rear Window
Dial M for Murder

Yep, I'm very surprised... you kiddies need to get out more.

*sigh* George Lucas did NOT direct Indiana Jones. Steven Spielberg did. If you had read my other post regarding this you would've seen that he's really only directed 2, that's two, quality films and those were 20 years ago. He's not a great director, he's a good at special effects and writing. He's NOT a good director. Industrial Light and Magic is where he really made his real impact to this industry.
