The year model and declared value of the vehicle at the time of purchase: It was a 1996 Dodge Neon, about $4400

Your age then: 17

Your age now:19

How long you had the car for: 1 1/2 years

Your gender : M

I traded my dad for a 2000 Dodge Neon. My 1996 and I went through alot. Driving down dirt roads after rain, playing in the snow, washing, waxing. It was a good car. She still runs too, although there was a miniscule leak on #4 spark plug gasket. No biggie.

I never realized how much cabin noise there was in the first gen. neons til i got a second gen. The difference is amazing.

Drove it for about 2 years and traded it, think I got around $750 on the trade in, it had close to 250,000 miles on it and had practically disintigrated from rust. Think I got so much becuase I got reamed so badly on the car I was buying. 50 mpg was nice though.
I was 16 then.

In 1998 I received a 1991 Plymouth Grand Voyager with a 150hp V6 handed down from my parents.

Stolen March of 2000. Mofos punched out all interior lights and tossed out the middle seat so they could leave the side door open and steal things while rolling! Involved in a low-speed car chase. The cops only caught one girl, the other 3 guys were too fast.

Recovered car had $2500 of damage and was exported to an uncle in Central America. He likes it!

25 now. M. 3 years.

I drove that car into the ground, never crashed it, but it had too many mechanical problems to keep. Then my dad donated it to the Salvation Army for a tax deduction.

My brother wrecked it into a parked car while reaching for his keys on the floor.
We repaired it, but it was never the same. Suffered from a series of moderate failures and was eventually traded in for about $250.

1988 Honda Accord LX-i, handed down to me from my parents in the middle of 1998. Probably worth a little over $1,500 given the mileage (162,000).

I was 16 at the time. Two months away from 20 now. Male.

I've had the car for just under 4 years and I've put another 43,000 miles on it (currently 205,800 miles) and a little over $3,000 into it to keep it running and comfortable. (Most of that came from the recent complete rebuild of the automatic tranny.) Unless the car explodes or is otherwise completely gutted by fire it will be kept indefinitely regardless of condition until such time as I can afford to restore it. Go ahead, laugh, everyone else does anyway.

1982 Mercury LN7 (Mercury version of the Ford EXP)

I was 16 when I bought it and am 28 now.

Bought in 1989 for $1200

Sold in 1991 for $500 to a guy I went to highschool with. He drove it for a year then sold it to his uncle. Other than one of the rear shock tower mounts rusting out and me and my dad having to rebuild the entire wheel well, that car was great!

I still miss it. It was a 87 Jetta GL with no power anything. No power windows, sunroof or steering. I had just spent 2K getting it back into perfect condition. One month later someone pulled out of a parking lot taking a left and ramed right into me...snif. It was an old car so they totaled it out. Now I have a 93 sentra which is a POS.

Bought a 1989 Ford Taurus, 4-door, brown, back in 1995 as a sophomore in high school for 4200 bucks. Three years later, crashed it coming up over a hill on a rural highway - day after a snowstorm, but the roads had been cleared......I was driving the spped limit, came up over a hill and hit a snow drift about three feet high across the road which was the start of a patch of snow and ice about 300 yards long - I slid for 300 yards or so, spinning around a few times then caught the edge of the ditch and flipped over into a snow bank. Crushed the windsheild, top of the car, bent the frame, 5000 bucks damage which was more than the car was worth. I'm a guy, 22 now, on my third car (just sold the Oldsmobile I got after the Taurus for my new Altima )

I have a 1990 Ford Probe. I didn't really sell it, though. I traded it in for a better car.

The only thing I didn't replace on my car (an '88 Isuzu Imark hatchback) was the thing that killed it: the timing belt. I thought it had a timing chain, and the belt broke while I was climbing a hill at high RPMs, trashed the valves... whoops. I loved that car too. It was one of those cars that you could learn everything about cuz it didn't have any complex parts too it. Hell, if I had replaced the damn belt, I'd probably still be driving it.

Works better now than when I bought it. I have done massive amounts of body and mechanical work on it and at 210,000 it is still running strong.

Got it in 1978, rusty Ohio car. Fixed it up until I could drive (1980) then drove it for about a year. Broke a piston ring and ran poorly the last few months. Drove it into the junkyard, got $50 for it.

All I know is that we gave away my ailing 79 Pontiac Woody Wagon to a priest, who turned around and sold it for $500 to a scumbag real estate agent. That real estate agent had it break down on him in the middle of a cemetary. And boy did the priest ever hear about it...
