Crazy? More like rich... I couldn't afford to replace my motor or car as often as they might have to with that kind of crappy treatment of the car! :Q

I've probably only changed the oil in my Porsche 6 or 7 times (because I'm lazy and forgetful) in the last 100,000 miles! Oh yeah, regular oil too, not synthetic. So I guess I'm the true crazy mofo here...174,000 miles and still going strong on the original engine!

Those days are long gone though. I'm nicer to my car now. Every 3000 miles.

I've had my car for two months and put over 3000 miles on it.
My first car saw about 70,000 miles during the 1.9 years I had it before I killed it with the splashing and the spinning and the crushing in the glavin!
My next car (and still daily driver) saw about 30,000 in the first 8 months.

My Subaru has 191,000 on the original engine and I have not changed the oil in a very long time. It refuses to die.

This goes for engine oil as well as ATF.

AMSOIL's extended drain interval 25,000 mile/1-year or 35,000 mile/1-year oil (0W-30).

I use Mobil 1 synthetic in my diffs and engine.
I have read other things that AMSOIL is the pimpass shizzy!

10/30 Synthetic every 3K to 4K or whenever the change oil light comes on in my LS1.

92' Maxima SE I take a look at 3000 miles, if it dark, I change it. If not, I monitor it every couple of hundred miles. I will not use anything but synthetic.

Yeah, we all pay for our laziness one way or another.

How long is synthetic typically supposed to last between changes? I thought that one of the main points of it was that you didn't have to change it nearly as much?

Why do you call this crazy? My car has an onboard computer that keeps track of the engine usage. It will tell me when the oil is in need of change. The oil changes are free for the first 4 years. I think the sump holds 8 quarts + filter. I never keep my cars more than a couple of years anyway.

'02 Audi A4 1.8T

Oil change interval is 10K miles. Changes are covered for 4 years under my warranty, but i bring my own Mobil 1 SuperSyn to have them put that in (otherwise i think they use regular oil).

10K between changes scares me, but apparently it's pretty common for Audi's and Bimmers and stuff

My Audi has a service interval of 10k. I am assuming it is synthetic oil they put into it, but my oil changes are paid for by Audi and they don't want to see me until I have 10,000 miles on the car.

Regular oil every 5000 miles.

3000 miles is a sham, and a waste. It's a gimmick to sell oil. Take note of the recommended oil change frequency in any other country, and note that it's 5000 - 10,000 miles... Even in American brand models. Also note that when auto manufacturers offer free service, they will suddenly up the limit to somewhere between 5000 and 10,000 miles.

Anyone who drives a late model car normally and does it at 3000 miles is being had.

Not until recently. Even at the 5000 mile interval, I still owe my car quite a few oil changes.

3 months or 3000 miles but I couldnt vote in your poll since I use a Synthetic Blend in my LS1. Last engine, LT1, is 10 years old and still going strong for my neighbor.

Could probably go a lot longer but since I do it myself it is cheap and since my car is also somewhat of a hobby, I enjoy doing it. Cheap insurance. Of all the HP cars I have had Ive never had a major engine problem. (Yeah, you guys think I drive like a little old lady)

I used to do regular every 3000 miles, but I do it every 7500 miles now.

#1. Its cheaper
#2. Thats what it says on the engine block.

Never trust that mark on the block. Change it ever 3000 - 5000 miles.

Using a pure synthetic and not doing oil analysis is a huge waste of money.

Changeing part synthetic oil before 5000 miles is a waste of money.

You CANNOT tell how good or bad oil is by looking at it.

I cannot take part in the poll because I have new and old motors. Each has specific service intervals.

on the BMW my brother does 12000 mile rotations.. well this was before the car crossed 100K.. now he does 12000 mile BMW oil service (technically he is to check and top off at 6000 but he does a minor oil change at EasyLube at 6000).

If he doesnt do it you can feel the power difference when you inch to 10K.. BMW uses Mobil1 on the car.. its synth.. and they do something else to it too .. it comes back smooth.. the easy lube place is just for making sure the engine lasts.. plus its only 25 bucks...

for the GS500 I do it something between 1500-2000 miles. Basically once in spring and once in fall. I am due for an oil change in a few days.. I crossed 3K and have done past 1600 miles on it. But I am reluctant to do so because its running sooo smooth.. oh well I have to do it.. suck it up and do it.

Its more needed for me in winter because I ride all year.. I ride during the rainy season too.. so I need to do my oil change.. I am a HardCore Biker.

Sorry, but thinking a car can gain measurable power, let alone power you can feel, through a oil change is all in your mind....
