I think that what we're seeing is the GOP becoming almost a completely monolithic political party, essentially a party for white people. This really needs to change. When you look at the group of people who voted for Obama in 2012, it was a group of people that resemble America - whites and non-whites of all types, men and women, and so forth.

But when you look at the GOP, it was overwhelmingly white. The reason for this is because of identity politics. The GOP offers white voters the ultimate prize - special privilege. The GOP basically acts like Santa Claus for white Americans, particularly white men. Now that it's basically impossible to win a national election just with heterosexual white men, they are losing their ability to assert their privilege and it is causing serious social issues in the US.

I tried but failed the immigration test. You have to eat a pound of Hákarl, to obtain immigration papers, and I just couldn't do it.
Holy crap!

"This fish is poisonous!"

"Well . . . Let's bury it and see how it is after it's rotted awhile."

"Good plan!"

Yeah - I will NOT be moving to Iceland.

Don't forget the Democrat Party is Santa Claus for everyone who is not a productive straight white male. If you are female, minority, gay, or simply un- or marginally employed, the Dems have benefits and special privileges just for you.

It's ironic because Republicans are the ones who most oppose social services, but their constituency need social services the most. Their base is basically people who have American passports, but aren't American in their hearts - the unassimilated Americans.

How typically a Tennessee view point, why I left the Midwest 25 years ago.

That and the cold and just a general lack of culture in general.

Geography am hard! Been about two hundred years since anyone who could actually place the states referred to Tennessee as Midwest.

Still, I wish you well enjoying the culture of eating at 4:30 whilst waiting to die.

And P&N takes another step down the road of homogenized thinking. Thank whatever politically correct object thats used in place of a deity that we'll never be exposed to Geos non compliant thought process again.

This. Heaven forbid people disagree, or say something that hurts someone elses feelings.

I don't disagree in principle and I have no problem personally with Geo, but I can understand how as a business model tolerating some of the things he said would be problematic. Free speech is a wondrous thing, but decorum and respect are also good things. P&N is by design a place where respect is earned if given at all, but racial matters are particularly hot button issues. A site where overtly racist things are tolerated tends to not attract minorities, a site without minorities tends to be viewed as a place where minorities are not welcome, and such a site is not a good business proposition. Free speech is a wonderful thing, but let's not forget that nobody owes us some free forum of totally free speech. At the end of the day this is a business venture and the mods have to do a delicate balancing act between encouraging free speech and maintaining/maximizing profitability - which is after all a key indicator of society's tolerances at the moment.

tl/dr: There is no right to not be offended, but there is also no right to a forum for one's views.

It's impossible to be 'Santa Claus' for such a diverse group of people. When you look at the GOP you see that it is overwhelmingly white heterosexual men. But the Democratic Party is well represented by white men, women, and all sorts of minorities, homosexuals, heterosexuals, etc. You can't be Santa Claus to everyone because in order to do that you are giving privileges to one group over others. The only way you can truly be Santa Claus is if you are giving privilege to one group above everyone else - and that's why white heterosexual men in the US are flocking to the GOP. Because the GOP gives them incredibly Santa Claus presents at the expense of everyone else.

I'd say thats all substantially correct. But it does limit the debate on some topics, and skews the direction of others as the bar for "racism" gets lower and lower. Even more to the point, why is racism a bad thing? I'm not talking about lune's that want to harm or deport others because of their skin color, I'm talking about relatively normal people that are more comfortable around folks that are the same color. Or perhaps even the people that are angry about the millions of illegal aliens that reside in the US, I don't get what makes them evil.

Humans are inherently afraid of things that are different or that they don't understand. Educated and civilized people learn to overcome this irrational fear. For everyone else we have the Republican party.

Geosurface is free to be a racist douchebag if he wants, but he does not get to speak for me and other non-racist whites, saying that we also only want to be around whites but just won't admit it.

Never had Hakarl, but Minnesotans eat lutefisk on special occasions. They can't be too far apart on the nasty food scale.

Just what are these "special privileges" for white people the GOP hands out? The way you think mystifies me.

I would not consider Tennessee the Midwest. Certainly Chicago, Minneapolis-St Paul (where I live), Milwaukee, Madison and Ann Arbor, among many other midwestern communities, are neither closed-minded nor lacking in culture. I certainly wouldn't place Clearwater above any of them in either category.

White flight speaks for itself. Yes, human nature is tribalistic.

The argument may need to be presented better, as there are many interchangeable subjects regarding culture, sovereignty, immigration, and nationalism which all play a part in such discussions. Hell, one poster even quoted Geo regarding the War on Terror.

I want the human race to come together. Yet I am a strong defender of American culture, sovereignty, and nationalism. I am tribal in those respects. I want western society's values upheld, for our society to stand the test of time.

Is one tribal view worse than another? Maybe it's just difficult to speak accurately on the subject, as people of separate backgrounds often have many differences, beyond the color of their skin.

ITT: first ever proposition that TN be considered the midwest, and has zero culture compared to a perspective broadcasting from Clearwater, FL.

mid = blown
