I tend to believe the intel on Suleimani's history of antagonism of the US in the region. I also tend to believe that the Shiite militia did in fact fire the rocket which killed the US contractor. However, I am highly skeptical that Suleimani was planning something "imminent" against the US because it is too convenient. It is evidently necessary in order to make the killing legal. And of course the administration is refusing to supply any evidence.

I think what happened here is that the WH asked the military/IC if they could say he was planning an imminent attack, and they were told, sure, not a year has gone by where he hasn't been involved in some kind of action against the US. And that was enough.

We took out an enemy general of a country we are not at war with. Of course a general of such a stature would be planning attacks against its enemies, just like our generals do. Calling him a terrorist would be like calling Michael Flynn a terrorist, sure, to the people who are on the receiving end of our attacks he could be considered a terrorist but that would be a misuse of the term terrorist.

So was this attack justified, based off of what we know and the reaction of some republicans, the answer appears to be no.

The imminent threat was trumps reelection. The narrative was all about him being impeached with more supportive evidence being brought to light, without this attack the news cycle would have continued down that path.

Just in case anyone needs to be reminded, trump doesn’t do things out of the goodness of his heart, he does them because he thinks it will benefit him. Period.

If I was a republican I can only see one reasons for staying with the party and I’d have to be almost fanatical about that one thing: abortion (and by extension, the courts).

Nothing I've seen about him indicates his anti-America beliefs were part time or lacking in resolve.

Yes, you were, even though you have no reason to believe any of it. The military may not have told the Admin that at all. What it comes down to is that Pompeo settled his grudge against Soleimani & damned near started a war with Iran. He also destroyed our relationship with the Iraqi govt, put our troops in an untenable position & declared to the world that we've gone rogue. If Trump was half as smart as he thinks he is then he'd fire Pompeo & take a different tack entirely.

Since I do not have the classified intel in front of me to review myself (and probably never will), I'm going to give Trump the benefit of the doubt on this one. As much as people love playing armchair quarterback when it comes to politics around here, we're not able to make informed decisions like the president can. The information to make those decisions that we're gleaming from just watching our biased news outlets of choice is sorely lacking.
