Sorry, instead of making this list incredibly long, let's just stick with PC's. I don't want to get into Commodors or Amiga.

i attribute much of my computer knowlege to the fact that i had a Packed Bell 133mhz with NO help from tech support. most of youknow that the packard bells were notorious for shoddy computers, so i learned a ton from formatting, trouble shooting, and the like. it sparked my knowlege in computers

the computer is still running today as a linux box

I had an Apple II then I went straight to the cream of the crop Pentium 2 266 mhz, 32 MB ram, 6.4 gig HD. I was so jealous of my friends 486 with Windows 3.1 for so long

Anyone else make such a big jump?

Heh, my brother had an Atari 800 back in the day (same time as Apple]['s). That thing kicked major ass. I used to play Star Raiders all day. Atari was so ahead of everyone else back then in graphics and sound...
The only thing that sucked about the Atari 800 is that it had a cassette tape drive, no floppy. So slow... and God help you if someone reset the counter.

edit: Star Raiders link

Does the Vic20 count?

If not then a 286 11Mhz, with Hard drive 20meg, 2400modem, and CD-Rom

I had a Packard 286. Good god that thing was a POS. didn't teach me anything, other than how to get pissed off at a machine.

Went from a Pentium 200 (non-mmx mind you) to an Athlon-B 800. The P-200 was cream of the crop when I got it, the Athlon was mind range.

C64. that's a computer, it should be on the list. otherwise you should ask "what was your first IBM-compatible PC?"

to answer THAT question, a 486DX/40 w/ 8M of RAM. 250M HDD and 2X cdrom.
