None of these sites seem to have the functionality google.com has. That would be fine for every day users, but if you arent born with infinite knowledge, you need something good.

I wouldn't mind paying between 5-10 bucks for how much I use it. I highly doubt that google will charge for their searching services since they are run by Pigeons

I would pay $10 a month for it! I can't count how many times google has saved my life! All I would need is the google groups searching

I use google a lot. I use a lot of the features too, google, images, groups, toolbar. With that said, I wouldn't pay a dime.

I love Google! Every other search engine out there's been spammed to point where they're useless. The only results you get are for porn and scams. You need to wade through 2-3 pages of that before you see any real results.

Here's something that hasn't gotten much attention: answers.google.com. Starting at $2.50, you can enter in a question and have researchers look all around the web to get your answer. The higher your price, the more researchers you'll attract. But that's not the best part -- you can apply to be a researcher and earn money by browsing Google and churning out results. Keep in mind that you need to be able to write professionally and use proper grammar and spelling, but it's some decent money you can get in your spare time.

Here's an example of a question that someone's paying $200 to get an answer for:
I am working on a project to locate the autograph of every boxer Muhammad Ali ever faced-Of the 50 fighters Ali faced one of the few signatures I am missing is that of Jim Robinson-Robinson is a rather obscure boxer having only 18 professional fights-Most of Robinson's fights were in either in Miami or Philadelphia-His last fight was with Kent Green in Miami in 1968-after that he seems to have vanished in thin air-Can anyone help me locate the Jim Robinson that fought Ali(please note that there were several boxers named Jim Robinson)or help me find an authentic, verifiable Jim Robinson autograph?

Tons and tons of questions there that range from $2.50 to $200. Look through them and see if you want to be a Google researcher.

Uh lets see, NOTHING!

The only things I should be paying for on the internet is the service itself (I wish it could be free, cable) and anything I intentionally purchase.
That means anything from search engines to Porno should be completely free.

I do use Google as my primary search engine but with everything else on the internet if they start charging money, I'll go somewhere else as well as anybody else.

But, hey, since I own the company my opinion hardly counts.

And apparently there are a few folks who are members of AnAndTech but don't live on the internet, which I believe was one of their requirements for joining because they don't know what the hell Google is!

Zero, it was a shame when bigfoot started charging, it was a shame when Juno got out of hand. And it certainly is shame that anybody uses AOL.

This is cool 2 know, thx MSantiago. It may come in handy someday if this makes it past the "beta" stage and the service sticks around.

Let me rephrase the question. I personally think paying for a service is the only way to maintain integrity of the service. Everything that is free seems to be paid for by personal spamming. That, and spamming by reducing the relavance of the query results through advertisement type hits.

So I personally would pay 10-30 a month to ensure a service I use 10 times a day on average, remains a reliable, high quality low spam service.

Sometimes I even hope they start charging because I don't even see how they can keep this up. Especially with terabytes added daily worth of newsgroup and web caches...

Google is one of the few things I would pay for. I need a good search engine at work, it would be worth paying a few bucks.

True story: a few months ago a manager from different division casually mentions while waiting in the lunch line that he can't find a PCL reference anywhere and needs one for his programmers to use on a project. So after lunch it takes me 10 seconds to find it online via google and another few minutes to print it out. I take it over to the guy as a favor and he gives me four baseball tickets with a reserved parking pass (about $150 value) as a thank-you.

Being able to find stuff can be pretty valuable at work.

Only if you are looking for real information, not if you are looking for porn.
