same with me - $150 max for a nice MX
computing power grows exponentially, so to me there's not much point in paying twice as much (or more for u freaks out there ) for a bit of performance premium.
spending $150 to upgrade vid card every year will definately get u a better card than spending $300 and use it for two years. besides, who needs 80fps at 1280x1024? when u run out of fps due to more demanding software, its time to run out and get a new card!
if a good enough cpu cost $100 (think duron), a good enough vid card shouldnt cost much more than that. also bear in mind game developers try to design games to run nicely on a slightly above average computer.
so, unless u have an 21" monitor and absolutely needs to run games at 1600x1200 and u are filthy rich,i dont think theres any reason to spend $300 on a vid card...
but if u ARE filthy rich u should donate it to the poor and needy
anyways, there's my 2 cents. same rule applies to cpus for me...
