Poll: what's the most you ever paid for a single computer component?

like a hard drive, cpu, video card, single stick of RAM NOT PRINTERS OR MONITORS!

for me,

i once bought two Pentium 75 CPU's, when they first came out, for $725 each, but that was to build two pc's for some people

for myself to keep/use in my main system, it was for a video card $400 back in ~1995 . that card today is worth maybe $5

Does a monitor count?

If so, ~$500

Otherwise, there was the $96 for 16mb SIMM.

$250 for 1.28gb Seagate HD

$155 for my Matrox G400 Video card that still running games like a champ.

Does this include stuff like printers? I spent ~$330 on a laser printer once. Also, I spent around $200 on a processor and around $200 on a video card.

I had to get Intel to replace my P60 with the bad math processor and they charged me $480 on my credit card to insure that I would send the bad one back.

It's been down hill since then...............

Yo,
Have never paid more than $500 (excluding tax) for anything, external or internal.

Have paid around $250 for video cards, CPUs, RAM, in the past. Most expensive components were monitors and speakers. Even my 21" monitor was only $75 from a Chapter 11 sale a year ago.

Try to cap most component purchases at around $250.

Have a good one,
PCM

Paid $550 for a HP 6020i 2X burner (SCSI) about July '97. Adaptec 2920 SCSI card was $125. :disgust:

I think I paid about a hundred for a soundblaster pro, pretty far back.
that was my first upgrade, and since then i've stuck pretty strictly to the bargains.

still - it was worth it - the difference between that and the bleeper squeeker was amazing!
and lets not forget the wonders of Dr Sbaitso and the talking parrot...

I remember paying $600 for my Monster 3DII when it first came out. That's probably the most expensive component. At least from what I can remember.

I spent $12,000 for a quarter-meg of RAM (that's right, 256KB of RAM) once.

Actually, it was my employer's money, but I spent it. It was memory for a PDP-11 minicomputer.
