I have had the opposite experience. I have used 3 Lite-On DVD's and burner's. 2 of the 3 DVD's were bad while all the burners worked.

Samsung SD-608 (black) 8x DVD 40x CD It was the cheapest black drive I could find at the time. Works well.

I use my Sony PS2 for my DVD player
Never had the need for a DVD rom in my PC and I dont have an HDTV to use progressive scan.

Despite what ppl say I think movies look great on a PS2 (480i, Digital Optical out, component quality)

Plus I can play great PS2 games like FFX, MGS2, and GTA3.

liteon dvd drives are excellent. i just hope they last long. my liteon is only 1 week old.

I'm currently using a Pioneer and have 2 Toshibas on other systems

Toshibas are the best for watching DVDs
use Pioneer for ripping DVDs

I use both a standalone DVD player and my PS2 to view DVD movies. I have never seen the point in going to buy a DVD drive for my PC as I'd never use it.

mine is a raite, also have stand alone, matsumiti x2, and am getting pioneer slot load. whew!


raite is good
matsumiti is better

neither can burn on the fly very good

stand alone good but pc's are much better imho:

zoom sux on mine should be called stretch lol
menu and software bound unlike pc where you can find one you like or switch to keep everyone happy
runs hotter than pc if used over and over
