designed for kids? what makes you think that? that its purple? thats for the japanese, who happen to love that sort of thing right now. and not playing dvd's? thats $20 in your pocket. i wonder how many people who buy gamecube won't have some other DVD solution (xbox, ps2, pc, dvd player). and there is some chance that panasonic will release a gamecube that plays dvds here in the states. its already been announced for japan.

Ah... more old time arguments, here is mine

-Superior games
-Very good graphics, oh yes they can compare
-No need to spend money for upgrade and still able to play new games for years
-No need to worry about software patch, hardware incompatibilities, and system stability
-27&quot; TV vs 17&quot; monitor?? You choose.

Your arguments are totally irrelevant when you can just spend $200-300 for a console on top of you PC, why limit yourself to a PC anyway? Cant you have the best of both worlds? Its not like you have to choose between the two.

Sorry, Once HDTV really starts coming into play with afforable prices pc gaming will just become a thing of the past. Right now the only advantage the pc has over a console is the ability to run in high resolution and HDTV will fix that issue right up. I rather play on a 40&quot; HDTV with theater suround sound on my couch than sitting at my desk with a 19&quot; monitor.

When I bought a N64 some time ago, it was only to play Zelda

I don't know of any games for the XBox that I would like to buy, especially not because most games for the XBox will be released for the PC as well.
And who needs a DVD player which totally sucks like the one for the PS2 does (watched it play a DVD on the PS2 of a friend. The DVD function totally sucks). I'll take a real, (semi) professional DVD player over the DVD player of any console anytime.

Elledan, please don't confuse the (granted crappy) PS2 DVD player with the one in the Xbox... they are NOT even close! The Xbox has a progressive scan VERY hgih quality DVD player. In fact, if you were to buy the equivellant Xbox DVD stand alone player right now... you'd be well over the 400 price tag (most are 600).

So no... the Xbox's DVD capabilities are a STEAL!!!!!

For the same price as a console, a few extra controllers and a game or two I could build a new computer system that can do more than play a couple games.

The only console I own is a dreamcast which I only bought because I now have about 270 games for it. I don't play half of them, but I picked up the DC used for 75 bucks. If anything it will be cool to keep my dreamcast and the games for 10 years, and when I have kids I'll let them play with an old piece of technology.

Consoles are too expensive. You need to buy all sorts of extra crap for them. Not like computers where you have choices in brands and quality and stuff.. they can rip you off with consoles because only their hardware will work (most of the time)

IMO, I am getting tired of PC gaming. I think I will buy a DC console sometime in the near future. They are cheap, have pretty good graphics, and a ton of games. I would rather play someone I know sitting next to me than go play on the internet, and PC's are not really good for this. After I weened myself from EQ, I realized online games are overrated. Now lan gaming, that is different

The XBox is gonner be a SERIOUS piece of kit, a performance junkies dream. Have you seen the claimed polygon throughput? In excess of 100mil lit/tex per sec.

I'm with LXi, best of both worlds. I have a 21&quot; Hitachi and a 25&quot; Sony VVega side by side (Gotta have something else to do while playing everquest). I bought a PS2, but one feature helped me make the decision of buying it over other systems. That decision was because I already had a PSX sitting under my TV so adding a PS2 allowed me to dump my old PSX yet at the same time hang onto all my favorite games and continue increasing the collection. So far for PS2 I really like Onimusha and SSX, there will be other awesome titles though.

X-Box sounds neat on paper, but since day 1 I had my doubts about games for it. I will make my final decision about whether I get it or not when it finally hits.

Havn't followed GC at all, N64 left a sour taste in my mouth... bought it for one game and only ever ended up owning one game (z64)

I guess it all depends what you like, I really loved all the RPGs that came out for PSX and I just assume PS2 will end up with just as many. When I'm not playing RPGs or a friend is over, I'm usually playing tekken.
