I have carpet in my bedroom but would much rather have hardwood floors. (Ironically I there is hardwood flooring underneat the carpet but the old lady won't hear any of it.) My thinking is once the carpet is down, its down for good whereas if you were to get an area rug, you can use it at will.

I concur.

Wood. Carpet is cheap, nasty and completely destroys the aesthetic of a home, imo. I'll never live in a house that has carpet.

Carpet. Thanks goodness I don't have scatter/throw rugs on a hardwood foor, I'd probably slip and break my neck when getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Yes, I know: P B 4 U go 2 bed.

Ok I have a question I have been battling with a select person about this. I want to put hardwood in the bedroom, but it will be a different color/style as in other rooms. I say this is ok, the other person says it won't "flow well" and is unacceptable.

In my living room and office I have pine laminate floor, and in the bedroom I want to put a cherry hardwood floor down. Is this acceptable?

Opinions?

Carpet in the bedroom, I'm clean enough not to ever get them dirty and they get vaccummed at least once a week. Tile or hardwood everywhere else.

Phooey on them. If you can afford to have cherry in the bedroom and it floats your boat, go for it.

However, I think its tacky.

But seriously, you can always install carpet over it if you dont like it.

i've always been a carpet fan, but hardwood seems very popular. one of my friends converted his entire house to hardwood/tile, DIY.

for those with floorstanding speakers, how do you compensate on a hardwood floor?

The now ex had hardwood in her bedroom. It was, um, noisy, when things were, um, happening. So carpet. Unless you have a really good bed that won't slide and scratch the floors up.

Some people don't care. Others even use spikes on hardwood flooring. I suppose you could use the ubiquitous cork pads, or maybe even a sheet of silicone.

Back in the 50's and early 60's, every room had solid oak flooring. The fad in the later 60's was cover them all with carpet! WTF? Our home came that way, and the first week after we moved in, all that carpet was ripped out and never ever considered replacing it, going on 25 years later. There is such a thing as rugs to use in bedrooms, but I guess some of you kids never heard of them.

For my climate tile works best. Hardwood is next best. Carpet is nasty. We had carpet in all the bedrooms when we bought the house but have since replaced it with tile.
