Thanks for being honest about your bias. Much appreciated.

I need to rectify a few things though.

* HP printers do run a cleaning cycle before printing, and occasionally even mid-printout. Just like everyone else's.
* Canon printers do not have permanent print heads. They're just separate from the ink. Epson's however do.
* Canon ink cost is way lower than HP's, even when you don't opt for the single-ink models. The separation of head and ink also brought a very fine selection of 3rd party ink that cuts the cost even further.

I recommend HP or Canon, but don't get the HP 920C or 940C. They use smaller ink cartridges that are the same price as the larger ones.

err sorry about that, thanks for clearing things up a bit. I tend to go on complaints from customers and from what I hear from my supervisors, and customers that want epson or cannon don't bother telling me why most the time or if they do, it's usually that they just like the idea of the seperate ink cartridges for each color, and/or they previously had one and they were happy with it.

About the cleaning cycles, from what i heard, cannon and/or epson do cleaning cycles every time your computer boots... is this true?

BTW - Again sorry for the bias and am very happy that you corrected me, we have monthly meetings, *cough* brain washings *cough*, and though most of the time the info that we do get is fact, we do get some biased and untrue info passed on to us, and sometimes (a lot of times) we don't get a chance to double check everything that is told to us.

EDIT : About the 920 and 940 from what i seen in most of my books the 940 and 920 can take either a #15 (27ml) cartridge or a #45 (42 ml) cartridge which are both about the same cost. Actually i'll even this to make sure it really works at work tommorow.

Hi again ...

Can't say for the Epsons, but the days when Canon printers ran a cleaning cycle when receiving a Reset signal from the computer are long gone - if it ever has been that way. I have really old ones around (easily ten year old stuff like BJ-200), and they don't do that either. Only when you turn the printer itself on does it do a quick flush of the jets.

btw, Canon is spelt with one N in the middle, thank you

Hmm, I didn't know the 920/940 could take both cartridges. It's interesting if it can.

About the cleaning cycles, from what i heard, cannon and/or epson do cleaning cycles every time your computer boots... is this true?

I really doubt when the computer reboots, because my printer would never be cleaning itself. Maybe each time the printer turns on though.

A special note about Epson.

Someone mentionned that you could get good cheap non-Epson ink cartridges for their printers.

But now it seems that Epson is making cartridges with special chips inside them so they can't be refilled, and that non-Epson cartridges without the chip would be incompatible.:disgust:

Models included are the Epson Stylus Color C42UX, C62, C80 , C80n, C 82, C80wn, Epson Stylus Photo 785epx, 810, 820, 890, 925, 960, 1270, 1280, 2000P, 2200.

I don't know how official this is though.

EPSON #1
EPSON have gone to the outerspace!
EPSON uses direct paper feed.
EPSON has better photo quality compared to HP price vs price.
