I would say either the new Ford or Chevy.

Personally I would pick the Chevy. I own a GMC 1500 with the 5.3 and I am very happy with it.

The few Ram owners that I know have not had good things to say about them after a few years.
Giving the import makers a littile more time to get things right would be a good idea.

I'd consider the Nissan & Toyota in ~2-5 years, after they've had a little more practice.

The Nissan Titan is getting excellent reviews everywhere.
Given Nissan and Toyota's record for reliability with cars, I don't see why it wouldn't carry over to their trucks.
On the otherhand, if VW built a truck...

Not too shabby. I am thinking I'll probably go with around a 3.73 diff depending on the make/model... hopefully that'd help me squeek another MPG or two on the highway.

The new F-150 ext. cab is much roomier than the heritage ed. ext. cab. I owned a 2002 ext. cab and while there was enough room to seat 3 adults, it wasn't all that comfortable. I sat in the back of an '04 and it was much nicer.

Titan. This is a great truck. The local dealer just got one. If I was in the market for a large truck this would be the one. "Motor Trend" has a review of large trucks this month and the Titian won. Then again your probably going to pay through the nose for one right now.

Dodge, just cause I am a fanboi. I love the way they look the best, and the 5.7 HEMI is a beast.

I also like the looks of the Avalanche and the Chevy is probably a little more fuel efficient, but isn't it a lot more expensive ?
What kind of milage are you getting out of your Hemi?

In town, constant stop and go with no freeway driving at all, average about 13mpg, on a long freeway trip, 18 mpg. My Ram has the lower gearing, 3.92, I believe, so the standard gearing might be a little better.

Hmm. Not too bad. I was told by a couple people that the Hemi's are really thirsty... but that probably depends somewhat on how heavy your foot is.

No the Cummins is a beast, less then 500lbs of torque it might be powerful but toss a double axel on it and you will top out at 45mph in the big hills.

That is definately true, but probably equally true for the other trucks you are considering. It's just the sound and feel of the Hemi is so sweet that it's hard to resist giving it a bit of throttle now and then.

Well, I think I'll be doing a bit of test driving this weekend. We just got a big dump of snow do it'll be a good time to see how good the factory tires and 4wd do.

I'll look at the Avalanche tommorow followed by the Ford. If I have time I'll take a look at the Dodge. The only thing that worries me with the Titan right now is there isn't many available in my small city and the dealer ain't dealin' on them. I'd still like to drive one though.

I have first hand experience with Avalanche for over 2 years:

1. Absolutely NO problem whatsoever.
2. 16 mpg mixed driving
3. Excellent people carrying capacity - up to 6 if you get front split bench
4. Excellent cargo hauling capacity
5. Excellent towing capacity - 19' ski boat for 2 summers
6. Since not many people appreciate it's appearance, plenty of good deals.
7. Ride is comparable to sedans, not bouncy like pickups. I test drove a Silverado HD and Avalanche back-to-back. Avalanche is noticeably better.

If I had to buy another vehicle today, I'd still buy another Avalanche.

Good to know. Do you have the 1500 or 2500? What ratio is your diff?

not only did the Titan win, it OWNED. The Chev, Ford, and Dodge were within a point of each other, while the Titan was MANY points ahead of all three.

Too bad the 3/4 ton diesels are out of your range. I bought an '02 F250 with the 7.3L V8 diesel and I absolutely love it.

I used to never like Ford, but the F250 was the only truck of Chevy, Dodge, Ford that I liked. The Toyota and the Nissan were just too small for what I needed.
