I live in Mexico; we don't stop at all to make a right turn on red, we just slow down a little if necessary.

He was just being a jerk. Although I've never really met a nice cop, so I guess he was just being a cop (i.e. a jerk).

I get that occassionally because cops are so friggin bored in my area they have to annoy one of the better and safer drivers in the area that actually KNOWS car control, doesn't street race, and doesn't drive like a d1ck.

I always stop before the limit line and then slowly roll forward to see. It's just something I've always done. Plus I'm too poor to get tickets for idiotic things like that so I avoid them.

technically because of the line youre supposed to... so you'd have to stop twice before making the turn. If there's no line, you'd do what you normally do.

My dad got busted for this also. The real trick is to look for cops at stop signs first.

It's happened to me before, the SUV that blew the red and hit me launched me across the intersection :|

No, of course not. Well if a cop is RIGHT BEHIND ME, I will stop completely, then start to edge out to see what's up, but otherwise I never stop. I also never stop for a stop sign unless I know a police man is there. There's just no point. To me they represent right of way, and I slow enough that if other cars (or a cop car!) show up, then I can come to a complete stop, but anything more is just a waste of time for me and those behind me. It's a waste of brakes, gas, and intelligence.

Actually, that's an urban myth. Quotas do not exist.

That is most certainly not an urban myth. Cops where I live have qouta's.. there was a huge stink about it about 3 or 4 months ago. They didn't change the system. It honestly does get really bad around the end of every month.

Of course no one stops before the line. There's no way to see, therefore no way to make a safe turn.
And there's usually a gargantuan SUV blocking any hope of seeing anything anyway.

By the way, I'm pretty sure the word gargantuan found its way into my sentence because of kill bill vol.2

I would like to see the news article or a reference to this somewhere if it is true. It would be an interesting read.

Police officers are directly responsible for the areas they patrol. If they receive complaints about a certain area (speeding), they will usually step up the ticket writing in that area. Also - officers are blamed if they do "too little" and if they do "too much." It's a tough job and I don't envy them due to the pressure they receive.

If NYC cops are writing tickets to fill quotas, I would love to read about it. It doesn't seem that revenue from tickets are that significant - but I could be wrong. It would really suck if they did that in NYC - please post a linky. Thanks![/quote]
