it's improved a lot. Like him or not, he appeals to the internet/young/hipster/gadget crowd with his bits.

Also has the best band...and that does mean a lot.

The appeal is pretty easy to see.


I didn't like him first, at either, but he's really grown into this. You can tell this was the gig he was born to do.

I always liked Conan and always will, but you can't deny his appeal is in his utter strangeness.

OP didn't specify what qualifies someone to be King of Late Night. If it's solely based on entertainment factor among current late night show hosts, Ferguson wins it by a landslide and Leno loses it by the same amount with the others somewhere in between.

The older I get, the more I realize that Carson phoned it in 1/2 the time because he was the only game in town. He was at the end of a dying breed of great 60's style hosts. I think Bob Barker was probably the last.

Anyway, I'm going to go with Letterman because he started this whole "hip comedy" late night thing. Conan's show on TBS is also pretty top notch if you've never seen it.

I only started watching Kimmel a couple of weeks ago and I think he is clearly the best now.
He has the most innovative bits and seems up on technology.

Ugh, no kidding. Fallon has some great segments here and there, but I find his show very inconsistent.

Leno sucks so hard and he's such a weasel. Conan is my favorite but he's stuck on TBS getting no good guests. So, Letterman is the current king of late night, he's got the time slot, and he's the best interviewer in the business. The Late Show doesn't do many good sketches or comedy pieces though. They need to use Alan Kalter more for one
