I'm torn.
I think paying $50 more for 8gb is retarded but then you will be stuck with 8gb forever.
On the other hand, the Nexus 7 at $249 for quad/1280x800/16gb is still a great deal.
I'm one of those that don't use storage much but 8gb isn't going to cut it since this will be my traveling gadget.
I'm 51% $249/ 49% $199 right now.

None, as I have no need for it. But, if I was looking for a nexus tablet it would definately be the 16gb one. No upgrade path is a deal breaker tho.

Originally I ran out of space to install apps. By default the Fire has about 900 MB free for apps. I repartitioned the internal storage to give me 2 GB for apps, but now the problem is my "sdcard" storage is a bit too small. A few game installs, a couple of rom zips and app backups, and I'm getting really low on space. I don't keep movies or music on it.

The problem is that repartitioning is difficult and wipes out all your data. I'd love to dial back the app storage a bit to around 1.5 GB instead, but I don't have the will to do it now.

Now, if the Nexus 7 has a more intelligent partitioning scheme where you don't need separate partitions for apps and USB storage, that would help, but I still think 8 GB is too little. Especially since all your cache and system files also have to go on there, so in practice it's more like 6 GB. 16 GB might be adequate I guess.

Meh, don't see much of a reason to upgrade from my Kindle Fire. It looks nice, and a good value, but not compelling enough to spend another $200.

As far as storage space goes, personally, I think 8GB is fine. I just don't use that much storage on my tablet. I stream all of my media, and I don't play the huge 1+ GB games.

Tentatively interested, but I'll probably wait for reviews to come out before committing to anything. I'm expecting the quality to be good (Both ASUS and Google's Nexus line have good reputations for that) so for $200 it's not a hard decision to make.

So you think consumers will hit a storage limit even if they don't store a lot of media (pics, videos, music) on their devices?

I'd consider a 32gb version but that won't be an option. Will the 16 have 10 gigs usable like the One X? That's pretty retarded. Even if they cost $$$ at least one can get a 64gb iPad if they so wish. I don't understand the whole cloud storage thing for your main source of storage. If I streamed 1 of my albums a day on my Note I'd be close to if not over my monthly bandwidth on AT&T. imho cloud storage is only suitable for a backup method or accessing stuff. I just checked my storage usage on my Note, 1.6gb internal used for apps, USB storage (internal too) 2.5gb used for apps. 1.6 used for video. Says I have 2.11gb free. If I bought the 8 gig version over half would be used just for my apps, so the cloud wouldn't help me there really.

Depends on what "a lot" means. In 2012, 8 GB is taken up very quickly. While 8 GB can work as an absolute minimum, I'd say a better minimum for a tablet in 2012 is 16 GB, with 32 GB to 64 recommended for the geeks who want to play video on them... unless the tablet supports external flash media, in which case 8-16 GB might just be fine even for the geeks who want to play video on them.

I did. Most of Gameloft's games, for example, carry a 500-1300MB data download with them. Doesn't take many to completely fill your internal storage.

I am glad I just got a "used" Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus from Amazon for $169 shipped. It came basically brand new with the seal broken. It has Exynos dual core, but the GPU is more powerful than the Nexus Tab. I would like the higher resolution, but 1024x600 will suffice. Best of all, microSD slot makes this tab actually use-able for travel. As an e-book it also suffices. Better bang for the buck imho.

I'm most likely going to sell my Kindle Fire. I have ICS ROM on it but this is a much better device. I only got the Fire for $140 on a Amazon deal so I won't be losing that much money. What I really like about the Nexus is that it has NFC and Bluetooth. Easy to share things between my phone and the tablet and being able to use a controller wirelessly with Bluetooth is great as well.
