Can I ask you what are the advantages of rooting the Nexus 7? I had a rooted Kindle Fire, but the only reason I did that was to install ICS.

Stickmount app requires root so you can transfer files from a USB thumbdrive with an OTG cable.
Titanium backup
modify DPI setting
flashing mods

that's just a few reasons.

When you initially unlock the bootloader your Nexus 7 it requires a full wipe so it doesn't hurt to do that before you get your apps on there. Unlocking your nexus does not require rooting. You can always root later.

There are rumors that third party companies may be coming out with Smart Covers (like Apple has on their iPads). If that's the case, I don't really want to get a "dumb" cover then have to replace it. At the same time, I hate carrying my device around "naked."

Same here, I've been trying to find a cheap temporary cover to use that isn't too terrible.

I've been trying to find something that is on amazon prime so I don't have to pay for shipping A lot of these have ~$5 shipping which makes it really not worth it at all.

Got my 16GB on Tuesday. I promptly rooted it, installed a custom ROM, and have been playing with it ever since.

Holy shit is 4.1.1 fast. I've been absolutely blown away with the polish on Jellybean, and I think this is going to be a hot device very soon. I've had 4 people in a 40 person office already tell me that they're going to get one. What's to lose? It's only $250.

Since the other tablets is that price range are the Gtab 2 7", the Nook Tab, and the Kindle Fire, the N7 leaves them all in the dust.

Looks like I have the screen detach problem, going to try and screw it down a tad. Only on the left side.

Keyboard is kind if annoying me from ICS. Mainly being no hold for alternate punctuation and that after you space after a word to say auto correct it and hit a punctuation key it doesn't auto attach to the end of the previous word.

Otherwise been really enjoying it, tis a nice size for some general reading and browsing. Plus more than fast enough to handle complex webpages, feels like it almost loads some faster than my desktop

Now if only I could use flash to give an even more complete browsing experience.

I do too. Along with backlight bleeding and touchscreen issues. After the delay in shipping, and now these defects, I'm returning this POS. If google tries to charge me a restocking fee I'm doing a chargeback.

My screen might be a tad higher on the left in the center but it's hard to notice. Not sure about the backlight.

Mine is the same way, I decided to deal with it then last night I was scrolling a web page on the left side and I heard this creaking sound all the way up and down the left. I bought from Sam's so I am going to be checking stock to see if they have any replacements.

I got my Nexus 7 finally. I sold my Nook Tablet to some sucker to offset cost.

This thing is amazing. I am absolutely blown away by the quality, even more so than my first iPhone. Tegra 3 plays any media you throw at it with hardware acceleration. Google has really impressed me.

Next Kindle Fire's specs haven't been announced, nor is there any time frame for it. But, it will almost certainly be running Amazon's forked and neutered version of Android. If you want a full tablet OS, go with the N7.
