I regret buying the Nexus 7. It doesn't work on many public wifi's due to the way it communicates with routers and servers. Mine will be resold soon.

i was thinking of a nexus but....no sd card killed it for me. i want to get rid of my ipad 2 32gb and i need that space. clicked the button on amazon yesterday for the transformer infinity
My only issue .. out of the box, it doesn't read Ad Hoc wireless networks. I can't tether MyWi from my iPhone.
If Asus can make a 7" tablet with high end hardware for $200, why does a 4.5" smartphone cost $600?

Usually if the network is open but requires a landing login page? I think that's the issue.

Next Kindle Fire's specs haven't been announced, nor is there any time frame for it. But, it will almost certainly be running Amazon's forked and neutered version of Android. If you want a full tablet OS, go with the N7.
Worth it if you already have a Galaxy Nexus + iPad 3?
EDIT: Nevermind. I couldn't deal with screen detach issues, or the chance I'd get a dead pixel and no easy way to return it.

higher dpi screens are more expensive
compact packaging is more expensive
cellular basebands are more expensive
antennas are more expensive.
design/engineering/testing costs are more expensive
and last but most important: the nexus 7 is a loss leader, they're selling it close to cost. the $600 for a mobile phone includes a healthy profit margin for the manufacturer and all the middlemen.
The screen isn't big enough for everyone, but if you're fine with (or better yet, really want) a 7-inch tablet, the Nexus 7 is great. It's well built, has good hardware and is priced perfectly. The only downside is really the limited (and not expandable) internal storage. The lack of expandable storage keeps the Nexus 7 from winning a higher level accolade, but the rest of the package is enough to earn our bronze Editor's Choice award.
The Nexus 7 isn't just a great Android tablet, it's a great tablet.
Nah I am happy with my iPad thank you .
interesting. ive had to use fing with the full hostname to ping a device from 2.3, but have never had an issue connecting to wifi *anywhere* with my phone but i dont think ive had to connect to anything that required a portal, either. my 2.2 phone connected to wifi with portals without issue.
go figure....hope that damn transformer im getting doesnt have that problem :Q
