How does the Nexus 7 camera compare with the camera in an ipad 2 ?

Can it take reasonable stills for Facebook, email ?

And can it capture video ?

Nexus 7 front camera: 1.3 MP
iPad 2 front camera: 0.3 MP VGA
iPad 2 rear camera: 0.92 MP

Nexus 7 camera is not great but way better than iPad 2 front camera. FaceTime is ugly with iPad 2.

Yes and yes for stills and videos.

Another question I forgot to ask..there are some cool drawing programs for young artists on iOS and Windows, Tux Paint for example, are there such things for Android ?

As promised, here are a few pics of the Portenzo case I received today.

http://imageshack.us/g/213/2012082220341469.jpg/

It's a very solid case overall. I ordered mine black leather, purple interior, with Intellistand (I uploaded a shot with this in action), and magnet plus strap. There's an additional option for custom embossing but didn't think it was the worth the $15. They added rubber cushions on each corner of the interior base so the Nexus is going to fit really tight in there. The magnet works perfectly fine and none of that inadvertently triggering sleep mode when you fold the cover back which was a problem that plagued a lot of the cases I've used in the past.

There are a few around. I've used Color & Draw and Kids Paint with my nieces and nephews.

Interesting. The 8 GB model is starting to show up on the websites of some stores. Getting ready for the Xmas rush I guess. That $199 price point is rather compelling...

Link. I'll probably buy one just cause for $200 shipped. Keep it in my work truck, tired of carrying out my TF101 every day.

Man FU California. Forgot about the $6.00 recycling fee, which also gets taxed, bringing my total to $222.44 for the 8gb. This thing better not have a single screen defect or not I'm returning it.

Just got this @ my local officemax. They only had the 16GB version available. So far it's working out great.

Glad I got the 16GB one I was thinking maybe 8 would be enough but now that I've installed a few apps and some mags to read + a few games, sheesh already down to 8GB!

I really like the OS better than apples. I sure hope google got a patent for it's tech because I think apple is gonna steal parts of it for it's next upgrade.

So glad I didn't buy into apples closed walls.

Yeah, I think 8 GB is too low for most of us AnandGeeks, esp. if you don't root it.

---

My slight left screen lift progressed to clicking when I pressed down. So I returned it today, and got a new one. I specifically told the store not to put it on the floor again as an open box, but to return it to Asus for repair.

Judging by the reports online, I'm thinking this may be a fundamental design flaw, similar to the cracking corner of the iPhone 3G. Not everyone gets it, but the design predisposes to it.

Well damn. The second Nexus 7 I got also has the screen lift issue. It's coming up a little under 1 mm. No clicking though... yet.

How many of you don't have this problem?

So yes, it's a fundamental design flaw.

Mine is good.

I think its more of a manufacturing defect. from what I've read the screen is attached with adhesive and in some cases its probably not been applied properly

I also note that the adhesive binds to an area that is much thinner along the left side too. If so, that might be considered a combination of a design defect and a manufacturing defect. Furthermore, my first one had a serial number of C60K, and the second one of C80K so manufactured later, but with the same defect.

So, back goes Nexus 7 #2. I must say though, this unlock/root & unroot/relock process with that Nexus Root Toolkit has almost become second nature to me. :\

On the left side, where the screen lifts a bit, if I push down on it I get large waves, for lack of a better word, that emanate from where I apply pressure. I don't get the same effect on the right side of the screen, at least not without applying much more pressure, and even then the waves or much smaller.

My main issue with this is that I'm a righty, so I hold it with my left hand and can feel the screen sink in with my thumb every time I pick it up. I imagine this will have a negative effect on the longevity of the device.

thats not normal, mine is solid as a rock. I would get it replaced.

got a serial # or date of manufacture on that, Tom? It'd be nice to see if it's a defect Google (ASUS) is already handling.

I got number 3. Also C80K. The left side is ever so slightly higher than the right, but so far not spongy. Fingers crossed.

BTW, my first C60K had slight differences in the packaging. The sticker on the back with the serial was unreadable, because the font was black. The two C80K units had white lettering for the font.

Also, the C60K's packaging sleeve was much harder to open. It was so tight I had to use one hand on each side, sliding down the sleeve while the interior box was held against a 3rd object. That one had two pieces of tape inside, sealing the box.

For the C80K boxes, the sleeves were still tight, but loose enough that I could remove them normally. I noticed the inside boxes were sealed with only one piece of tape.

Minor changes, but nonetheless it seems things are being modified on the fly.

P.S. The place where I returned the 2nd defective Nexus 7 said that they had already been warned by the manufacturer that there was a screen lift defect, although there was no recall issued. Furthermore, that single store said they'd already had a bunch of returns specifically for this issue.

I like my Nexus 7.

But I'm also looking at the Nabi 2 for a 5 year old. Looking at the specs I think it has the same cpu as the Nexus 7 ? And it has microsd and hdmi out.

So, the Nexus 7 has a better screen ? and jelly bean. The Nabi has some stuff for kids that I don't know if its available for the Nexus ?

Seeing as my next smart phone is going to be nearly 5", I don't see the point in getting a 7" tablet.
