Of the 3, FreeBSD seems to be the fastest and most stable but has the obvious limitations of hardware compatibility and ease of use...

I guess even the most technical oriented people mostly use windows..rather than linux for "entertaining" pupose.
I don't get it.. Windows2000 retail full version costs arms and legs..
I'm using win98 (not se) because I can't afford software upgrade..
Is cost not a big factor to you guys?

1) Windows 2000 does the job for me.
2) For me it's free because I got MSDN subscription.
3) Even if it cost me $$$, it's not that much.
4) I don't see any good reasons to use Linux.
5) I have all the software I need on Windows 2000. I heavily multitask between them. I can't be bothered to go through the hassle of dual/triple booting without a good reason.

But then I might load Linux on my old P166 to experiment SOAP some time this summer. That's about the best reason to use Linux I could think of. Otherwise, for the time I spend learning Linux, I could buy a couple of copies of Windows 2000 or train myself in all the upcoming .NET goodies.

I need more than one option

I have Win98SE, Win2000 (soon to go because I sold it, but have been to lazy thus far to delete it), WinXP beta (old one...2464 I think), Mandrake Linux, and Solaris x86.

So I have to vote 3 times on choice 1 and once each one choice 2 and 3...



Oh sorry...missed &quot;most&quot;, that would be Win2k up until tommorow when I delete it. Then it will be Win98SE breifly until WinXP RC1 is released then it will be that.

So Windows of some variety.

At home: Win 2K Pro dual boot w/ Mandrake 8.0
Time split on these is about 50/50... but I voted for Linux cuz i like the underdog! (and I hate M$)

At work: Win 2K Pro on the new 1 GHz Dell workstation, FreeBSD 4.3 on the new dual GHz server, and Solaris 2.5.1 on the Sun UltraSparc30 workstation. Phew that's a lot of OS's!
