I heard Vista had gotten better and less buggy, but I'm not switching until SP1 comes out and the video driver issues are fixed. 'Til then, I'll just stick with XP (with Linux on the other HD ).

Currently I find my user Xperience is better in Windows XP.

I'm having to re-learn things in Vista, and tbh my time could be better spent.

I can only see DX10 games being any reason as to why I will eventually move my Vista OS from my test box to my main rig.

Then again, I might just get a console.

Vista64 works much better on my rig than XP (Q6600@3.35Ghz, 4GB RAM, HD2900XT) and I didnt have any problem with Vista64 - I have Vista64 for 4 months

Any opinion about Vista that starts off this way should be completely ignored.

Vista has been a much better experience than XP for me. In fact, it's better in every measurable way.

I own both and both are installed on my primary work and home rigs, but I rarely boot to Vista. When I have more than 4gb of ram, and get a 4 or 8 core setup, I may try to go to it full-time. XP works much better for me for now.

I don't know what you're running now, but Vista runs just fine on my dual-core and 2gig of 5.9 rated RAM, really.

Yep! It makes me wonder how the same people form other opinions.

I have never used Vista, so I for one can form no first-hand opinion of it.

However, that being said, I have read several articles from hardware sites I trust, in which they compared the two os for gaming. XP offered consistently better frame rates across the board, all else being equal.

Since gaming is what I care most about, I'm not going to pay more for an os that gives me less performance than the one I use now. Simple as that. Now if and when this changes, I'd certainly be willing to reconsider, but not until then.

Just outta curiousity, for those who've been here for a long time, was there the same amount of idiocy posted by n00bs bashing XP or 2000 when they came out?

Gaming is also my primary concern, and I HAVE used Vista exclusively for that purpose over the last 5-months. Gaming for me has been easy, and with more fidelity and stability than XP ever delivered. It's as simple as that.

By all means, feel free to state your opinions on Vista. But understand, as a non-user, you may indeed be wrong.

I do understand that. But it's like anything else, whether it's a new video card, monitor, game, etc: to start out with, I look for online, hopefully objective site reviews. When it comes to individual consumer reviews, you can find people raving about the worst product imaginable, and totally flaming something that's actually excellent--which makes forming an opinion based on individual reviews somewhat questionable. For instance, I just returned two monitors that got dozens of supremely positive consumer reviews, yet I found them to be completely subpar.

At the same time, I don't want to just run out and buy something without any sort of prior knowledge. So I look for hardware sites that I consider to be objective, and hard, tested numbers. And the articles I've seen about Vista vs XP have XP coming out on top for gaming. I give those articles enough credence, that I'm willing to stick with XP, at least for now. This shouldn't take anything away from your personal experience with Vista, which I'm glad to hear has been very positive.

Since I got Vista Ultimate for free from Club Live, I installed it on a small partition to try it out. Now I need to install a game and check out the performance.

The poll lacks a third choice - BOTH. I have 4 computers - 2 with Vista Ultimate and 2 with XP Pro.

For day-to-day operations, especially email handling, XP Pro is my choice. But, I also like Vista even though it is more restricted in email handling.

Both can do the job - but, honestly, my current preference for XP may just be due to familiarity and knowing where everything is.

I have both however Vista x64 HP which I have is far superior to XP(sucks compared to Vista x64).

I won't bother going over what things are better in Vista since they have been well documented, all my games and software programs work fine,I have all the drivers too .

I heard Vista had gotten better and less buggy, but I'm not switching until SP1 comes out and the video driver issues are fixed. 'Til then, I'll just stick with XP (with Linux on the other HD ).

How would know if you don't use it? FYI drivers work great and have improved a lot since Jan(I have yet to find a 32 bit game I can't run in my Vista x64).

SP1 will not have any driver updates according to Microsoft only bug fixes etc.... some have been released via Windows Update which a lot of people forget about, they think SP1 is the only update for Vista.
Also remember drivers are the responsibility of the company that makes the hardware in question.

Vista x64 I find amazing ,rock solid etc... .

I just put together a new system with Vista x64 and haven't had any driver problems other than not being able to run nTune or the like to OC my video card. The only crashes have been because of Dreamscene or Dreamscape (I think the problems were the Stardock program)

Using my laptop with XP isn't that much fun anymore. Vista just has the little things that you get used to and programs start up a lot faster from what I've seen.

I think you got my wrong here by assuming that I was somehow trying to sway you. You did, after all, respond to something I said that wasn't directed at you personally. You can buy Vista or not, and your choice won't affect me in the slightest. This thread is about Vista, though, and I feel obliged to counter some of the utter nonsense I see.

Agreed.

thescreensavers has opened my eyes to the terrible evil that is Vista.

I am now going to uninstall it from my main PC, HTPC, & notebook, & go back to XP, because z0mg, it doesn't suck.
