list what type of internet connection you have, and what your internet speed is. I have cable, and I can get a steady 3Mb download and 256kb upload.

Wireless and it gets up to ~350kbps download. Don't know about my max upload.

I think he got his bandwidth speeds confused Morfik. He probably meant that his cable internet rated at 3Mbps can sustain download speeds of 350-375KBs. And I would think (based off of most Cable providers) that his upload is still at a much slower 256Kbs.

The reason that is is because of bits and bytes. There are 8 bits in a byte, so internet rated at 3000Kilobits per second will have a download speed of around 375Kilobytes per second. Likewise your wireless rated at 375Kilobits per second will have a download speed of around 47Kilobytes per second.

Just switched from Earthlink DSL to Earthlink Cable, cable has been great so far. I average 3179 kbps download and 365 kbps upload. Compared with DSL, i was averaging about 1200 kbps down and 300 kbps up.

Well, the thing about Cable is it depends on how many users are sharing your "circuit" IIRC. If you are the only one on a circuit, you can get very fast speeds, but as the ISP loads it up, the speed gets slower and slower. I suppose some Cable users can be slower than DSL, which is supposed to be a "fixed" bandwidth.

I'm switching from Cable (Time Warners - Road Runner) to DSL (Verizon) because of the cost. DSL should be good enough, and it's $10 per month cheaper. I save $120 a year that way... worth it IMHO and it should be fine for what I need, and much better than dial-up.

I'm on a t1 in a college dorm. I tend to about 600kilobytes/s on downloads off of good servers.

Even though T1 is slower then cable does it have a higher sustained speed?

Cox Premiere CHSI rated at 4M down and 384k up but with sites that have big pipes I usually get 10% better.

I use a 56k modem all thoe it's more like a 28.8 ~~~ Do anyone remembers the days like 9 years ago when the net was so small and not bloated? boy a 28.8 was fast then heck faster then wut I have not to be honest. But then again I do not need broadband at all nothing I use needs it and I cna play and kick ppls butts on any FPS game no matter wut speed they have.

Cable. Downloads are capped at 800kbps; no idea what the uploads are capped at, but it's probably close to 800kbps too.

I could never get decent speed with Quake 3 on 56K,however with my 512Kbps ADSL it`s a dream,you do get better smoother gaming with faster connection ,believe me .

I have Verizon DSL Advertised 1.5mbit down 128k up. Actual is 180KBs down but if I do 2 downloads at once I ussually get about 220KBs. and I get about 20KBs up.

I could have cable but Charter, the provider around here really sucks, dropped connections or just plain outages too. Plus they have alot of service charges for just about anything, stupid CS and they just plan cost more. With Verizon I have had no problems and CS is great too.
