I have Charter cable with advertised rates of 2000/256 and I exceed them often. Day or night, afternoon or evening, weekday or weekend, I don't know if I ever go below 270kb/second downstream and 27Kb/second upstream. Here is my most recent speed test.

Usually those test sites are so bogged down that I usually get them slower than what they normally are to other sites. When I download an ISO of Mandrake 10 Beta 1, for instance, the sustained rate is around 290-310Kb/second. Most of the people in my area of Minnesota on Charter exceed the rated speeds. As recently as a year ago, they used to have horrible reliability issues, so I switched to Frontier DSL for 2 years. I had previously used Charter's cable service since 1998 when it was introduced and it was great until 2001 so I had switched. I heard they newly revamped the area and built it up and it has been FANTASTIC. As for pings, I am generally in the area of 25-50ms and get a 60ms average time to East coast game servers, and 50-65ms to west coast ones. I am glad they returned to the way they were in my area. We are paying $35/month too...will probably be $45/mo after April (Best Buy promos for it).

My cable speed isn't capped as far as I can tell. A few days ago I was downloading some Debian ISOs with Jigdo off a particularly fast mirror close by, I'm not sure if it's reporting incorrect speeds or what, but some files reported being downloaded at around 21-22m/s ! :Q
(Jigdo downloads individual files, then creates an iso out of them)

Accesscomm cable (local cable company) 1mbit down 1mbit up. I could pay a bit extra for 1.5mbit down but I don't need it.

Static IP is also part of the package.

ADSL: 1500/128 kbps. I get up to 163 Kb/s downloads, which is actually ~1300kbps. Not bad.

It's the best broadband I can get in my area, and it's only $27 a month. Charter cable is the other option. I have a friend who has it, and it's terrible. He loses his connection all the time, experiences outages, and all sorts of trouble. It's even slower than the SBC Yahoo DSL I have.

I'm pretty happy with what I've got. I wish my upload speed was higher, but it's alright.

The reason that is is because of bits and bytes. There are 8 bits in a byte, so internet rated at 3000Kilobits per second will have a download speed of around 375Kilobytes per second. Likewise your wireless rated at 375Kilobits per second will have a download speed of around 47Kilobytes per second.

ahh no, maybe I got the question wrong. What I meant by being on Wireless is having a 802.11b on the second floor connected to cable (Comcast) and then connecting to it wirelessly from my PC in the basement and I do get download speeds of ~350 kiloBYTES per second (depends on server too obviously). I have no clue what my connection is "rated" at, but this is what I am literally getting by downloading from the net.
